corals turning white...

this is my first post on here i have 2 corals turning white...a flower pot and a hammer they usta be nicely colered and opened up all the way now they dont seem to open much at all..all other corals doing great though...water req. are all within tolerances....i have metal halide and actinic lights nothings change and been established over 7 years have had corals for bout 6 months ...i cant place images it gives me this message...any suggestions about either of my problems(coral and pictures)

What are you feeding them? I think food has to do with color. Also I understand MH lights can bleach coral if they are too close and not used to them, but 6 months later however doesn't sound like that is the problem.

i thought same thing about my lights being to strong but why did they last so long thyve only been in this condition for about a month...as far as food every other day i use a cube of reef plankton and a cube of cyclops and once every 4-5 days i use an all-in-one reef supplement..its really got me puzzled the only thing stranf goin on in my tank is im getting some red algae (its been bout 1 1/2 since replaced my mh..laid off) but i wouldnt think that the lights being weaker would hurt them...as i said everything else is thriving.....mushrooms,pink bubble coral,green stars,zoos,cup corals and anenome

There is some stuff on the market called coral frenzy...it is supposed to help enhance color in coral, it has a bunch of ingredients like clam eggs and such...you could try it and see if it makes any difference.

sounds like its worth a try ill see if my lfs has it and if not i go online and order it...thanks for the reply ill try anything as longs as it dont cost to awful much...

ITS BEEN 1 AND 1/2 YEARS SINCE YOU CHANGED YOUR BULBS? did i read that correctly? if so that would be my guess as to the problem.

Weaker bulbs wouldn't cause bleaching would it? I thought bleaching was too strong of a light. When my bulbs went bad the Xenia turned to snot and algae started to grow.

yeah its been a 1 1/2 since i replaced my mh's i replaced my actinic in january and planned on replacing my mh's in feb but i got laid at the beginning of feb and dont have $200 extra unemployment gives me what i need for bills and only alittle left over for the rest of the things in my life....i currently have it for sale but only get ppl interested in pieces of it and id rather hang onto it instead of getting stuck with stuff

from my understanding and if im wrong please correct me! lighting is very compllicated IMO. lol
but when bulbs get old the par value changes different wave lengths of light are being thrown out of the bulb. which i would think could and would affect the algea that lives with in the corals giving it its color. and then on top of it he said red algea im guessing hes talking about cyno?? which is another sign of lighting getting bad. but i would also think though that t he anenome would be the first one to show signs

not that i want to see you sell your tank!! but maybe if need be you could sell off some things like the live stock and rock and keep the tank and gear then once you get back on your feet you will be able to start it up again?!?!

Hey Loopy101 you make sense to me, I learned another new thing, thank you.
Cheap MH bulbs??? I don't think they exist, LOL Mine run me around $70.00 each. I only use 2 175 14K bulbs for my 90g, but I have to order on line, no stores around here carry them.
Your tank is so beautiful... I would borrow the money if I had to before letting such a sweet tank go without the right lights to keep it going.
Even replacing one bulb is better than none at all.
