That's why I choose Atkins. I can still have bacon, eggs, steak. The 3 food groups.
How long have you been on it? Have you lost any weight yet? Do you get your cholesterol checked and if so has it gone up?
Inquiring minds need to know!!!

Atkins does work. I've done it. The biggest problem is that is causes a loss of muscle tissue at the same time. The body does not like using stored fat for energy. It wants to use sugar, so it will use the muscle too. The diet was originally designed for patients who had to undergo emergency surgeries for their heart. So it was basically lose weight or die. It works off ketosis. Ketones get released into the body from fat being burned. Basically the more fat you are burning the more ketones you release. There are some downsides and upsides to it. I could go on and on.
If you are needing fast weight loss because of some health condition it is a good one but if you are just trying to lose weight to lose it, I don't recommend it. I prefer a modified one actually. I think that the key is to cut out all most simple sugars and any refined carbohydrates like white bread. This doesn't mean you can never have any candy again but it does mean that it is very limited. It is a difficult diet to stick to also. I love eggs and steak as much as anyone but you can get sick of it pretty quickly. You don't have to count calories though. I once drank an entire 12 ounch jar of whipping cream (for jello topping) in a week and still lost 5 pounds. My cholesterol never went up, but it is super low to begin with. I lost 30 pounds in 6 weeks but it was like having PMS on crack for the whole time. I was moody, tired, and craved sweets like ice cream and doughnuts the entire time. I did not feel healthy doing it at all though. To me feeling and being in shape and healthy is much more important than being thin. I didn't retain any water at all ( you can't actually). Trust me people. If you are eating well and exercising and continue to change your routine every 4 to 6 weeks and push yourself, you will see results.

The reason weight watchers is so good is because it includes all of the food groups, atkins on the other hand...doesn't work nearly as well.

Good Luck!
I am in the final 9 lbs of my 57lb loss. I am following the South Beach Diet and it is working very well for me. I have tried lots of others only to give it all back and then some! What I found is that I eat a lot of really bad carbs and I needed to stop that. Now I eat lots of good carbs (whole grains) and none of the bad ones (processed flour, etc.).
I really recommend picking up the South Beach Diet book!
BTW, you still can't have Bacon while you are "losing weight" unless you consider Turkey Bacon - Bacon (and I do not!). I can have Canadian Bacon if that counts!

I agree. There are several good diets out there that show people how they can eat properly for life. I do think that weight watchers is one of the better ones. I give it a thumbs-ups because it teaches people how to do it on their own. They get out of that mentality that a diet is something that you go on and then go off of and rather that it is the way you eat normally.

Another thing about South Beach is that it was designed as a diet to improve blood chemistry, not as a diet ot lose weight. The weight loss was a side effect.
If you follow it, it is supposed to improve your cholesterol and blood sugar.
Just more data for you.

I'm right with ya CFR!
Past couple weeks I lost 11 lbs.
Weight Watchers is a great concept!
Mine is closer to atkins though.
2 veggies and a piece of fish or chicken each day (for dinner) is better than I've ever eaten in my life!
I can eat red meat but I don't care for it and knowing it sits in the intestines for a week, I don't care for that either, LOL.

Good for you CFR!!
I started a "patient" file called "Keri's fat bum" in my pet files at work to keep track and so far it's only gone up!! Sad!! I'd love to try something like weight watchers but I don't know if you can if you don't eat meat? (I eat fish but no chicken, beef, pork, anything farmed....nor hunted, in theory I'm a lot more ok with hunting than farming but I still don't eat bambi ;) )
When you guys go on weight watchers or the south beach diet does it make it easier to continue eating healthy once you've lost your goal weight?
