Cowfishrule Official Weight Loss Thread

over the last couple of years I have lost a lot of weight. its not a good thing just to go on a diet most do not work or only work as long as you are on them. atkins was a big one a while back because you could loose weight rather fast but as soon as you went on a regular diet bam the weight was back plus some.
a few key things to remember when trying to loose weight.
1> moderation everything has a value including snacks but only in moderation
2> healthier choices have snack foods such as fruit and veggies available for snacks
3> drink losts of water *sodas and sweetned drinks can kill a diet*
4>activities are cruicial weight training and things are good but going on walks are a great way to loose weight aswell
5> eat several small meals a day dont starve your self because your body will go into a store it mode and can actually gain weight or hold a steady weight.
also dont forget that pounds may not be what is lost at a certain point guys start to loose inches instead of pounds,
I started at 410 pounds and am done to 250 but have stopped looseing pounds and have lost 4 inches in the last 3 months so have realistic expectaions for the weight and goals.
good luck and keep us updated!!!!
Mike

BTW, you still can't have Bacon while you are "losing weight" unless you consider Turkey Bacon - Bacon (and I do not!). I can have Canadian Bacon if that counts!

Bacon is 1 pt per slice, so yes, i can still have 2 pieces every day if i want to.

When you guys go on weight watchers or the south beach diet does it make it easier to continue eating healthy once you've lost your goal weight?
yes. weight watches is not a diet, but rather a lifestyle change. the first 3 months of it sucks, but then your body adjusts to it. after some time, you loose that craving for some foods that you normally would eat. some things, such fries, you'll look at and go "ugh", cause you know it will bother your stomach.

yes. and since my wife works for weight watchers, it will be easy for me to jump back on it again.
once i reached my goal in april/08, i stopped paying so much attention to what i was eating. i gained a couple of pounds back, and i felt it. so its simply time for me to jump back on it and stay with it again.

You gotta throw that bacon on a George Forman grill
Then you can eat alot more I would guess
I would also recommend jumping rope its alot easier than weight watchers

you'd never come close to burning what you ate if that was the answer.
Jumping Rope is 3x the cardio of running, burns the calories and helps you prevent heart disease, take it from somoen who was overweight at 18 and is now in shape at 25

good luck CFR,
just remember a few key phrases.
50% of it is food, and 50% of it is exercise.
adding lean muscle helps you burn more calories 24/7.
it is a LIFESTYLE change. not just swap out some food and expect to drop LB's
that is the first post of michaelTX in the aquarium that i can recall agreeing 100 % with every word lol. congrats to everyone that has worked hard and shed some weight, make sure you keep it off and dont become a statistic.
Kingsmith, i have done every kind of cardio there is, but only tried jump rope maybe twice as a kid, never seriously. is it taxing on the knees? i personally am a big fan of zero-impact cardio....

congratz man, its hard to lose weight and i admire you for going for it, it takes alot of will power and your not just one of those people who complain, you just go out and get the job done.
when i was young i had a problem where i would get full really fast and if i ate a lot i would get the feeling of nausea, so i ended up being underweight so i had to eat alot so i would grow properly and believe it or not its one of the hardest things i have had to ever overcome. im fine now incase your wondering.
but when i was a sophmore in highschool i tore my ACL playing basketball and put on some weight since i couldnt do anything for awhile. anyways the key to losing weight is exercise, IMO its alot easier to go out and run or walk than to sit inside and say "im not going to eat that" "im not going to eat that" "im not going to eat that". + after you exercise your not hungry

That was exactly why I started jumping rope, I was running about 5 miles a day then in about a week I developed terrible knee pain and could barely run a mile, so then I used an exercise bike and stared jumping rope 2 days a week. Now I jump rope at least 5 times a week and have never felt the knee pain since then
I do do it in side on a rug which probably helps but it is definately alot easier on you knees than running

Good for you CFR!!
I started a "patient" file called "Keri's fat bum" in my pet files at work to keep track and so far it's only gone up!! Sad!! I'd love to try something like weight watchers but I don't know if you can if you don't eat meat? (I eat fish but no chicken, beef, pork, anything farmed....nor hunted, in theory I'm a lot more ok with hunting than farming but I still don't eat bambi ;) )

Kerri, I believe WW has a vegan program?? Go to WW.com
It is a lot easier to recognize your portion size and what you can and cant have. I love that applebys has a weight watchers menu so we can even go out to dinner with out feeling bad about it.
I lost all my weight long ago, but can still get right back on when I have the will power to do so. Most of my weight gain is due to medical treatments and hormones these are the hardest lbs to get off. I'm back on program though along with some exercise.

Hey COWFISHRULE, it would be pretty interesting if you took pictures of your self every week and post it up and as time goes by you can look back on how you used to look like. lol
