crushed coral turning brown??

I have a 155 bow front, it been up for 3 week and now the crushed coral is turning brown :help:

Diatoms. It's fairly normal for new tanks especially if you used tap water for the first batch of saltwater.

But also it may eventually stay that color. That is why many hobbiest chose live sand so atleast they can get a clean up crew to stir/sift and clean the substrate.

what does live sand have to do with getting a clean up crew?

Alot of fish and inverts cannot live on or in CC. You won't see a nassarius snail sifting the middle or bottom of cc. So the debris just stays in there.

my bad.....i misread or misunderstood something....duh he's go cc not sand to begin with...now it all makes sense....but if he had sand it necessarily would not have to be alive to get a clean up crew

OK, should I add live sand??? I do have 2 40 gal tanks running now.. One has live sand, and the other is crushed coral. I personaly like the crushed coral.
