Grouper,
Sorry to jump in but think I'm developing the same snotty thing. I 've had a small spot of some green algae that was staying pretty small, but in the last week really took off. My nitrates were high but since I started using ro water from the store they dropped. Anyhow noticed bubbles around my skimmer and then the snotty stuff in my fuge and now these teeeny tiny things in my DT. They are maybe 1/16 to 1/8 inch long, white looking and I believe they are swimming or spinning around the DT. I mean they are small--just basicall look like fine hair. They are not pods!
Is this dino? Aren't dinoflaggelates those organism that are bioluminescent and will actually glow under a microscope is their light schedule is correct? See this site
http://www.lifesci.ucsb.edu/~biolum/.../dinohome.html. I'm trying to figure out whats causing this. I think I'm basically breaking every rule. My lights are old and on order, I just removed all my carbon. Is this screaming Dino? Is the green stuff truely hair algae or a by product of dino?
Sorry just a little paranoid. I was so excited my nitrates were down too.
Still trying to figure this all out myself. I did put Red Slime Remover in this morning to see if that changes anything. That's some really freaky stuff when you do it when it's dark and just the actinics are on. Makes the whole tank glow like it's radioactive.
