Ok good answer there. Thanks I just learned something here and it makes sence. This is the 1 thing I didnt understand I mean you read about live rock and stuff and you read it enough to know it works. But I feel as though I am doing my fish and corals (whaen I get them)justice if I understand how bio filtration works and not that it just dose because thats what I read somewhere.

Anything from 25% up to 100% is appropriate.
If you didn't do water changes during the cycle then I'd recommend the 100% water change.

sorry to hijack but in bang guys sig it says to do a water change during your cycle to keep lr alive. if i have been cycling for two weeks what % should i change???

Yes its is joe and thanks again. Now for TeamGroupKiko you want to keep your amonia as low as possible to keep the hitchickers alive on your rocks. I have a thread called thans to swf members where someone told me how low and it worked but I will tell you this. It will prolong your cycle but well worth the wait. But then I had an amonia reading so high it was off the charts I was haveing to guess the readings and I am sure I was still not close.

I POSTED A FEW PICS OF TANK AND EQUIMENT BEING USED.
ok a couple things 1st and foremost get gfci outlets. Then I recomend a sump/refugium set up but that is fine for a 55 gal. I hooked 2 wet drys like yours together to make my sump/refugium set up you should also look at my thanks to all salt water fish members I will try to find the link. I made it for cheap and could not be happier. Also I will take new pics when I get batteries for the cam because I made a few upgrades to it the are great.

wow by the time I typed that 2 posts. Se I told you they would chime in thats a question not seen in a little bit. They all said 100% they are the same people that got my tank up and running so my all means take there advise before mine. But I am a question for them would it not remove most of the bacteria
thats you put in with cycleing the tank. If not then whats the point of ghost feeding to keep it alive. I know some is in the rock and will reproduce but if it is already there why remove it. and not a little at a time till you got the trates down.
There's very little bacteria floating in the water column. 99% is on the rock & substrate. So, a 100% water change would remove 1% of the bacteria and 99% if the metabolic and organic leftovers from the cycle.

IMO change enough water to keep your ammonia levels below 0.5ppm. This keeps most of the animals living in your live rock alive.
This does NOT slow down the cycle. I don't know where that myth came from.

you are good to go then. And for bang guy asking where I heard that myth from honestly I dont remember but I did read it. However when it came to my tank with amonia through the roof it only took 3 and a half weeks to come down with close to 1000% in water changes along the way and yes I mean the whole 3 and a half weeks to bring everything to 0. But at the end of the day its not that long for a cycle. So I can that myth is busted lol. And everything in the tank survived with the execption of the aptaisa that I killed personaly and now my pepermint will not eat them but 1 of my atseria snals seems thats all it eats
I figure dont fix whats not broke right. I have not had a problem since. So all in all listen to bang guy and joe niether have stered me the wrong way yet.
