hungover, doped up, stood some people up from "back in the day", experienced s3x or got a hum m3r in a car... his comedy is based on experiences... none of which a 14 to 16 yr old has which is prolly why he doesnt find it humorous... see my point???

how so??? if you havent done the actual activity or been in those situations you cant relate at all... sure some one can tell you how something feels or how its like, but until you actually do something you arent going to be able to put yourself in that situation and completely relate... take for instance a muffled "uhm huhmmm"... if you havent had that happen to you then that is gonna go right over your head...
I've never done drugs, so that means I can't relate to jokes about doing drugs, but I still find the humor in them. I'm never paid for s.ex, but that doesn't mean I won't laugh if it's a joke about a prostitute. Yes you can relate more to jokes that you have been through, and if you've been through the the stuff the comic is talking about it will be funnier
, but that doesn't mean you wouldn't otherwise find the comic funny.
I'm 21, I've never been doped up, had roommates, or owned a house. But somehow, I'm one of the ppl who voted that they thought COok was hilarious.
Yes, if you've been through the stuff they're talking about it enhances the joke, but you don't have to go through to find it funny.
At least that's how I see. I guess it's a difference of opinion, I just don't see why you have remark on his age when he's asking opinions on the comic.
BTW, the 1st time I heard Cook was when I went to beach w/ my brother and his friends. He was listening to him on his ipod, and his friend was in high school. He absolutlely loved cook. Yes, maybe he's the 5%, but I don't think so.

Now we are just getting into semantics. I just think that you can understand a joke/story, laugh find if humorous or not, without, as you say, completely relating. Also, nothing this particular comedian does is beyond understanding for anyone. He is very one dimensional. JMHO, I guess.
Exactly. Cook, in particular, I don't think is very hard to understand.

On an unrelated topic,...what kind of fish does Dane Cook have?
semantics??? how is understanding a muffled "uhhm huhhhmmm" semantics... i just gave you an example of what this particular comedian does... if you havent been there you have no clue...

no.
Just because a comedian's humor it geared to a certain age group, doesn't mean you have to be that age or had those experiances to find it humorous.

NO, but it helps understand the humor.....making it funny.
Example, a 13 year old would have no experience with the movie scarface for instance, so any jokes used in the accent done by al pacino (which comedians do on occasion) would not be funny or as funny as they should be, because they have nothing to tie it to.

But that doesn't only go for 13 yr olds, that goes for the cajillions of ppl who have never seen the movie. When a comedian does a reference, of course they are going to get ppl who don't know what they are talking about. That's a risk they have to take, they just have to choose a movie that more ppl would have seen than not.

So you basically agree with me? I do not think everything Cook does is "relatable" (is that a word?) to people of all ages, nor is it appropriate, however, we are talking about Dane Cook! He is no Carlin, Kinison, Pryor, Rock, Chapelle, Williams,.... I think their acts are much more adult, for lack of a better word.
Did you watch Cook's last two specials? He over acts everything to make people laugh. What about the drive through at Burger King bit, as funny as that was, do you really think you have to had worked at a drive through to "understand" that? I don't think you have to have many of the he discusses experiances to laugh during his act. But I do agree AW, it helps.

so what youre saying is that if a person doesnt know or have experienced something they possibly wouldnt get it??? and the people that havent are either gonna laugh just to laugh and pretend they know, or say they arent funny at all because they dont get the humor...

This is ridiculous.
If a mod sees this, would you be so kind as to shut it down?
If not that's fine, whatever.

All I know is that bugs bunny is much funnier as an adult than as a kid. You miss a lot of the humor as a kid.. mostly because you're being entertained by cartoons.. but you don't catch on all the little side jokes only older people would get....
..... yeah I'm not throwing ages in there as kids vs. adults means take it as it relates to your own experience.
And for Dane Cook? eh.... not really my cup of tea but I don't hate him or anything.

its plain english dude... i think youre trying to hard to find something more to argue about with me... if someone doesnt know something OR experience something then they cant relate??? and those people either laugh JUST TO laugh (in other words pretend they understand) OR they simply dont like it... i can dummy it down a little more if you would like...

That's enough. What do you want? Do you want to win? Fine, you win. Let's get rid of this thread.

- I would like that.
I am not trying to argue with you, well maybe so, but I think you are missing my point, perhaps I am missing yours. I, atleast, am only discussing Dane Cook. Also, if you have actually read my posts, I was not saying you are wrong. Just that I don't think Cook is on that levell.

i have read every one of your posts... i get what youre saying... and my last post was a question about a comment from another member that was quite the contrary to that members original stance...
