Is he altered? Is he inside with his "pack" enough?
Fix the problem at the root of it and most of the battle is won. Then consider that dogs do NOT do these things because it amuses them to see steam pour out your ears!! Your dog has a NEED that must be met and it's up to YOU to figure out what it is then meet it. An excellent alternative is to put in his very own digging box then training him to dig in it instead of everywhere else.
Did I mention I'm a dog trainer?
I also show Great Danes at AKC shows hence, the name. I'm constantly dodging dane slobber, dane paws, deadly dane tails, and full on dane flying body blocks that are just his silly way of saying "MAMA YOU'RE HOME AND I'M SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU!!!!!!!!!!" It aint easy either since he outweighs me by about 60 lbs!!
Here at my house we commonly say "dane love hurts" but I wouldn't trade my monster sized doofus for anything
Hi DaneDodger!
Hey, what area of the country do you show? I don't show personally, but I am active in the Dane world, and know many people who are involved in the ring. We may have some mutual acquaintances!!
