Indeed. Although I would have at least a few pieces of LR in the display tank and I would make the sump as large as possible - at least 30 gallons. You've got the idea, though.

30 gallons seems quite large for a 2 gallon DT. LOL My dad is going to be looking at me like what on earth are u doing by making a 2 gallon the DT and 30 gallon the fuge/sume? LMAO!

That could actulaly be really really cool. Especially if you have it set up right and the equipment would be out of veiw. Man if i had the money and Time i'd set up a few picos like this strategically around my condo -- it could look great

Would you stop running around in circles and just go grab a cheapo 55g and then put dual 10g sumps underneath.
Set yourself up strong out of the gate and really minimize the headaches for longterm..

Ok, I know this question is going to be pretty random but, do you think a glass tank thats going to be 3 feet wide, 3 feet long, and 2 feet deep will only need 1 MH?(36 inches by 36 inches, by 24 inches = 134.6 gallons)

Whatever tanks Coral Keeper uses (I also reccommend the most capacity possible), I think the sump would be much better being far larger than the display.

Metal Halide for a non-photo tank?

Maybe a single 1000w or even a 400w but the heat will be intense. Going with single 25w will just not be enough.
To answer as direct as possible, I say no to a single bulb over almost an reef thats not nano sized. The shadow effect limits your rockwork and coral placement. Makes the entire tank look awkward in my oppinion.
*pssst* buy my monster tank in my dining room. I still have the thing and the wife is starting to give me the stink eye since its still empty.

Hmmm... If I place the MH high enough, it will cover the entire tank. My lfs has MH on their huge frag tanks that I'm guessing is 4ft by 4 ft and like 1.5-2ft deep.
*pssst*I'll take that monster off of your hands for free. Maybe as a birthday gift to me?
*hint* its on May 28th.

Yep, been so busy with work and working on the new motorcycle herd that I have growing. The tank has just been sitting in the dining room same as you last saw it.
If you are interested in the tank I am sure we can work something out.

I would make the skimmer compartment the very first thing in the sump. And I would STILL urge you to go with 30 gallons or more for the sump.

Maybe I shouldn't make this tank? lol Maybe I should make a small coldwater tank with the chiller RFB game me? Like a 10 gallon coldwater tank with a super duper skimmer?

If you're willing to put the time and effort in, I think you should still do it! You're focusing in on a goal and potential ways of accomplishing it - I say keep at it.
If you decide to do a cold water tank, though, I think you should use at least 30 gallons for that, too.

How much room for a tnak do you have currently? Can you fit a standard 55g in your space? I assume it will be in your bedroom correct?

I'm not sure. No, the tank isn't going to be in my bedroom. None of my tanks are in any bedrooms and my dad doesn't let me keep any tanks in the bedroom. The only tank thats in my bed room is the 400 mL tank. lol But what were you thinking of doing with the 55 gallon tank?

It just seems that a 30 gallon sump/fuge is WAY WAY to big for a 2 gallon DT. lol
