Really not sure , is maroon algae on LR a good thing ? It seems to be growing pretty rapidly.

Now that i think about it , i added 65 watt coral life 50/50 . Would this cause rapid growth of alage .

dont think the light caused it but may have helped the growth. when i was at the aquarium in camden there reef tank rocks were all a dark maroonish color on them i think it may be a type of good coraline just not common like the greens and reds

If its real slimy looking then its cyano which isnt good. Point a powerhead at it and see if that helps.

I have some deep maroon on some rocks and it is hard - correline algae is what it is.
Usually you get the purples but neon green and maroon I have been told is possible as well.

a simple wipe across it with your finger will help you determine if its cyno or not. cyno will come right off, coralline wont budge.

Red slime is kind of soft and can be gooey at times. Maroon correline is hard and you would have to chip it off just like typical correline.

I was told that live rock that is deeper in the ocean and with more filtered light (due to depth, I would assume), coupled with a little less 02 creates the orange color.
I don't know if it is true or not, but the person that told me this seems to know more about saltwater than most people I talk with on a daily basis so I have taken him at his word.
I have not seen it spread and it will more than likely either turn maroon or purple from what I have been told. So, I enjoy it while I can. It hasn't changed in a few months but I certainly like the look of it in the tank.
It is an awesome orange. Bright, almost a tangelo orange..
