Diamond Goby

I added a Diamond Goby to mt DT on Sunday. He is very good at sifting the sand. Ever since then the water has been cloudy, looks like there is dust in the water. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else, and if so how long did it take to clear up.

It happened to me, it'll calm down in about a week I think.

I agree....you may find more debris in your filter material in that fisrt week also....

i think thats very common....sometimes it looks like he sets of a little smoke bomb!...he does dump sand all over my corals, making another daily chore for me to clean them off, but hes a cool fish with lots of personality

Sometimes my "Rotor-Tiller" even takes mouth fulls up on the rocks 6 or 7 inches and makes new seascapes.

oooohh, I want one of these so bad. I have almost bought one several times, but my worry is that, as much sand as they move around (especially out from under your lr) that I might have a rock collapse causing a glass break. Anyone had this happen? I have seen some other tanks where these fish have made caves and tunnels so far under the lr that I can hardly tell what's still holding the rock up.

I made sure all my rock was on the bottom glass. After several months with the Rotor-Tiller fish" I needed to move about a gallon or so of my substrate to my sump, because of the mountains he would make along the front glass bottom

Found a shot of his handy-work with the substrate from about 6 months ago., see below

wow...that's alot of Tonka truck moving. Iv'e got over 250 lbs of lr, and I know most of it is on the bottom glass, but I can't swear that I put ALL of it all the way down, because I remember putting the substrate in first

Nice tank btw

Thanks, If you do get one it will not be very long till it is on on the bottom glass, he digs everywhere!!!

That's my fear...
If I knew that the rock would settle slowly, then no problem. But as fast as these rascals move sand, I could potentially have an avalanche, with rock crushing corals, and if something hit the side glass, a flood

I would say if there is such a thing as a "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder" in a fish, these guys should be first in line for the Fish Shrink.................

That's what I love about 'em though.

Know what I mean? If your going to do something in life, do it with a freakin' passion like nobody else can....even if is eatin' sand all day

I have to admit they are awesome fish. But the silt in the water will land on your LR and your corals and coat it in a fine layer. Also these fish are known jumpers. You MUST cover the top of your tank with at least egg crate.

The diamond goby will eat all beneficial microrganisms in your sand. They are known to jump, so be sure your tank has no open holes.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Just think that Mr. Monk from the show Monk would not be able to keep a Diamond Goby in his tank. He would keep dusting off the LR everytime he looked in the tank.

See, Now I have your back.

Oooohh...I definately need some sand cleaning (one reason why I like this guy so much). I'm currently working on some phosphate issues, and my snails are not quite stirring it up enough.
Coincidence you should mention it being a jumper. As mentioned, I have been wanting one of these for so long, I actually have 3 large pieces of eggcrate sitting in the garage that I bought a month ago from home depot (in preparation for this guy). I just never cut & put it up because I have gone back & forth on the "rock crash" theory. Still undecided
