Speg-first I want to commend you on making some big changes in your life. Kudos to you. I did want to caution you on those protein drinks. JD gave sound advice and I really want to affirm that to you. When building muscle, you need to supply your body with protein, you are right. But above all, you need to have a balanced diet and that will be your biggest advantage. After studying nutrition with an excellent teacher, I don't buy into the whole supplements craze. Your body will naturally pull from your diet what it needs as long as it is a balanced diet. It will use the vitamins, minerals, protein, carbs, etc..... in a larger percentage from foods than it ever will from supplements. Most supplements give you very healthy urine, if you want me to be honest. I don't want to start a debate with anyone and won't go there but I just felt you might want a little more info. Every meal you eat should contain a protein. It doesn't have to be much but it will improve your metabolism and in your case and goals, help you build muscle. My biggest piece of advice for you is to check out your health insurance policy. Most will pay for a consult to a nutritionist. This will be your best information and the most helpful in my opinion. Also, check into some gyms and talk to others to find a reputable trainer. ONe that isn't just a college student earning some cash. ONe that is someone who knows the ins and outs of the human body. They can tell you how to most effectively build muscle. How much weight to use and how many reps, etc..... I really didn't mean to go on like this but just wanted to share with you what i have learned over the past years.
