haha, I have NO luck with tetras....I think the problem is the tapwater comes out hard as a rock with a pH of over 8.

lol. yep, never had good luck with those things either. now i have a little better knowledge about which ones to keep. neons, painted glass, and some others are just meant to die evidently.

Good job guys, thanks for the replys! I do agree with suppliers needing to stop getting in the doomed specimens, but I think most of the ones we try DO have a chance in captivity, they just need some extra attention.
Beautiful copperband dogstar, that is one of my favorite saltwater fish!

Unless you make the water softer you will never have success with tetras or any other fish from the Amazon river but you can keep fancy guppies and gouramis.

Not entirely true, angels, oscars, cory cats, silver arrowana, and more from this region have flurished and even bred in my tanks. Although I think tetras are much more sensitive to hardness and pH for whatever reason. But on the flipside, I do have some of the nicest guppies and swordtails around.

When my daughter was 5 we got her a Beta (fighting fish) She kept it until just this year. 3 years!!! I dont know if they are hard to keep, the amazing part is she took care of all aspects of this fish by herself since the day she got it!!! Not bad for a 5 year old to start 8 year old to finish!

That is my baby. His name is Buddy. He is the only creature I love more then my fish!!! That pic was taken when he was about 9 weeks old. He is a year old now and ABSOLUTELY beautiful. He is an Eurasian. It is a pretty rare breed in the United States. There are only 12 breeders in north america and about 8 or 9 of them are in canada. They are more popular in Europe. And ust to try to stay on topic I've had no difficulty keeping him, he immediately took to IAMS!
Yes, I imagine she will turn out to be quite a reefkeeper later in life. When Blue (what she names him) finally did die she cried for a week. I tried explaining to her that to keep a fish like that for that long is impressive. He came in one of those little bowls and about 6 mo's later we put him in a little tank.
