Just wanted to put my stamp of approval on fighting conchs.....I just got seven from this site, and they are absolutely the best thing I have had yet for sand cleaning.....diatoms in particular. Brown diatom algae on your sand? fighting conchs are the way to go.....simply excellent for sandbed clean up. I can't believe I have never tried them before...... Absolutely amazing diatom cleaners for the sandbed.

thanks for the info...how many conchs would do well in a 60g tank??? its 48" long 12" wide 24" high??? I really want to get some of these. the sand bed is 3" deep. Do conchs actually bury themselves in the sand???

about 8 or 10 inches, is the difference. and Queens do NOT work much on the detritus in the sand

I agree with fshhub, Queens do nothing for detritus and they eat two or three times the amount of diatoms. This means they need some serious sand bed area. Especially after they reach 3 or 4 inches when they can no longer climb.

I agree Sammy. I've had 2 fighting conchs in my 90 gallon for about 6 months and they are great. They are usually out every day but one did bury himself for about month.
