I did find that setting up a "T" offer the overflow was complicated and didn't work as well as I wanted. I have since set a Rio 800 in my sump to pump into the fuge. Both the wet/dry and the fuge are working better.

well for people like me, the power doesn't usually go out for any longer than a minute or two.. so pc backup would be ok.. how do you get the siphon started on the HOB with a U tube? And I dunno if I'm missing something.. but if the HOB only goes a little ways down into the tank, wouldn't the whole operation stop once the power goes out and the water level in the DT gets down lower than the HOB? I guess this could be a problem for people will large tanks, so that this 3" of water is many gallons, but for a 75 gal, is it a worry?? I'm trying to figure out how I'm gonna rig up my sump.. looking for suggestions.

I've lost power multiple times with no problems.
CPR overflows have a hose at the top you hook to a powerhead. When the power comes back on, you're set, the powerhead draws the air out and starts the siphon.

so CPRs are good overflows?? I'm looking around for a good fail-safe overflow so I can rig up my sump. I dunno if I wanna buy a seperate powerhead just to keep the siphon going on the overflow? Does it actually pump the water from the overflow box to the sump, instead of gravity? I'm trying to figure it out..
thx

Many of the beneficial Sand Bed Critters avoid barriers, others congregate around them. This means that in a refugium with a small footprint you're only going to have critters that like the barriers. This cripples a DSB in my opinion because of the lack of diversity. This has been my experience over the years, your experience may vary.
