DME question

I'm a little closer to pulling the trigger and buying a nice Jap DME. I need to know how hady they are before I drop a cool grand on one.
Will a 75g hold one if it has the tank and plenty of LR to itself? Maybe some damsels thrown in for color and food.
My LFS has a Mex DME for $250 and if the Jap DME does not acclimate well I might go for the Mex DME.
I know my Golden Moray requires delicate feeding and is not near as aggressive of a feeder as my White Eye or my SFE. Just need to get some first hand experience before I go all out.
Thanks....

a little perplexed why spend a grand on one and buy a ton of live rock then only go with a 75 gallon? i have a brazilian dragon and love it spent 119 on it it is in my 180. seeing japs get 3ft and a 75 is only 4 ft long i would def go for the longer tank. i know they spend a lot of time in the rock work but when they are hungry they swim ALOT. i cant picture a 3ft fish swimming in a 4ft tank. plus to fully see their beauty i would def go with the larger tank. just my opinion def not a expert.

I have a 240g FOWLR, but as DME's are fish eaters I wanted to do a species ONLY tank. I already have the 75g up and running.

Just curious, are you considering AW2X3's that he is selling? They are such cool eels....someday maybe.....Though I do agree with the above poster, the Brazilian is quite sweet also for so much less money.

My LFS has a sweet looking Mexican DME aka Brazilian. But I really want a Super Red Japanese DME. AW2's is gourgous but it's a more white Hawaiian.
Here is a Japanese, this one was going for a grand at 29".

Yeah, thats Brazilian, I used to think they were the same, PSUSCR straightened me out on that, the Brazilian sounds like a more manageable fish, Mexican/Jeweled are larger and more aggressive.

that japanese is beautiful!!!!! but if you only have the 75 to put it in i would not spend the grand on it personally. get the brazilian and when your fish get big enough put it in your bigger tank. untill then keep it in the 75. how big is the brazilian now?

so did you get the b d m e ????????????????? i also want one nobody around here has one and thay have troble ordering one. i like to see what i'm buying.

Nope, I decided to hold out for the Jap DME. I went to the LFS today at lunch and they still have the Braz DME...But they are out of their mind. They are calling it a Chinese DME and are asking $375.
Now they offer 25% off on the weekends, but thats still $282. Seems a little steep to me.
VERY nice eel though.

I own both a 24"Jeweled and a 26"Brazilian. The Jeweled is neither bigger or more aggressive. I have had the Jeweled for nearly two years now. It has grown maybe 3-4" in that time. The Brazilian I have had for a few months and has allready outgrown my Jeweled in both girth and length.I bought the Brazilian and he was around 22-23" roughly.
The Jeweled eels are very laid back and not aggressive towards fish/eels. The Brazilian is a bit more aggressive during feedings. They both eat around 3 pieces of shrimp a piece and will be satisfied for 3-4 days.
Very cool eels I would recommend either of them to anyone with an aggressive tank. Best looking eels available for the $$$ IMO.

My Brazilian DME is in with a Jeweled eel and what I believe is a Yellow margin eel. They do fine together and like to snuggle in the same caves. Very cool watching them interact and twist around each other. As long as the eel is the same size or bigger you should be fine.
