Do 10k halides produce more heat than 20k's

I was wondering if 20k bulbs produce less heat or the same as 10k bulbs. I'm considering just going ahead and getting MH's instead of a 2x96 retro

yup! 10k bulbs produces more heat then 20k. i swap between the two kind of bulbs all the time. cant decide which to stick with , even got a nasty burn on my finger for accidentally touching it.

lol everytime i look at a metal halide on.. last thing i wanna do it touch it...i dont even like to touch a normal lightbulb thats been on

awww, your missing out. you must try it.... you can actually hear it sizzle! luckily my hands were wet. but it sure burned a good part of my finger

I believe Kip is right. No matter what the light spectrum, the output wattage is the same. It may just be coincidence that certain bulbs seem hotter. It probably has to do with the brand, or just the individual bulbs themself. I believe a 250 watt bulb shout run about the same temp as any other 250 watt bulb, assuming they are the same type of bulb and brand.

I just figured they may differ because of the extreme differnce in PAR in the two

I can see an arguement for wide spectrum MH lamps producing more infrared radiation (heat) than bulbs shifted to the Violet range.
