Do you eat just one?

The in-laws came over today, and the wife had me grill up hamburgers and hot dogs on the barbie. So I burned a few hamburgers and a package of hot dogs, and when it came to chow time, everyone ate a hot dog and a hamburger. Why is it when you grill, you're inclined to eat at least one of each item cooked, but when you go out to a restaurant, doing something like that would be considered glutonous? So which do you do?

+1, I can eat one of each but I have to be hungry for both, if not I usually go for the burger...

When we grill for birthday parties, I usually go for the hotdogs. Mainly because I make homemade coney sauce.

Its a Michigan thing I guess
1 lb Hamburg
1 or 2 ground hot dogs
1 6 oz can tomato paste
1 6 oz can water
Chili powder
onion
cook hamburger, add about a tsp chili powder, onion, and ground hot dogs
Brown until hamburger is done, drain the grease, add tomato paste and water
simmer until thickened, serve on hot dogs.

That's called "homemade chili" down here

Close to what we make, except leave out the "ground hot dogs" since it's going on a hot dog
, and add garlic (lots of it
) and the most important ingredient, red pepper...to kick it up a notch....

Thats the recipe my mother got from a restaurant in flint Michigan that specializes in Coney dogs.

We also eat it on hamburgers.

when you go out to eat does your plate come with just one thing or do you have options?
Im gonna say you have options. What is the difference here?

cause you don't have "hamburger and hotdog" as an entre. you usually have one or the other as an entre (and usually won't take the dog) with fries or something.
imagine ordering two entres? the waiter would look at you funny...

If a resturante offered that choice I bet it would sell the heck out of it.
what if those are the only options during the cookout like most cookouts? I mean at my cookouts I offer chicken ribs hamburgers porkchops all bbq except the burger. The norm at a bbq is to eat 2different types of meat. That is how it works.
Mix in some potato salad amish mac salad and about 6 beers all is well!

I'm usually a 1 burger and 1 dog kinda guy but it definitely depends on if the burgers are home made or the crappy frozen hockey pucks that come out of a box. If its those I'll opt for 2-3 dogs. Can't stomach that frozen junk that they try to pass off as a burger!
