Do you think Americans have lost their way?

In the 1750's, Benjamin Franklin considered the American colonies to be dangerously fragmented. On May 9, 1754 Franklin published this woodcut in his Pennsylvania Gazette stressing the need for colonies to work together. The rattlesnake was an early symbol of American independence.

Benjamin Franklin gave credit for his many inventions and business successes to this list of 13 principles:
* Temperance: Eat not dullness; drink not to elevation
* Silence: Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself, avoid trifling conversation
* Order: Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have it's time
* Resolution: Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve
* Frugality: Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself; waste nothing
* Industry: Lose no time; be always employed in something useful; cut off all unnecessary actions
* Sincerity: Use no harmful deceit; think innocently and justly; and if you speak, speak accordingly
* Justice: wrong none by doing injuries or omitting the benefits that are your duty
* Moderation: Avoid extremes; forebear resenting injuries so much as you think they deserve
* Cleanliness: Tolerate no uncleanness in body, clothes or habitation
* Tranquility: Be not disturbed at trifles, nor at accidents
* Chastity: Be chaste in matters with the opposite ---.
* Humility: Imitate Jesus and Socrates

Do any of these appeal to you?

12 Values:
* Honesty
* Reverence
* Hope
* Thrift
* Humility
* Charity
* Sincerity
* Moderation
* Hard Work
* Courage
* Personal Responsibility
* Friendship
9 Principles:
1. America is good.
2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.

Has anyone here had enough with our pompous,arrogant,disconnected government?
Discuss if you like
*Edit* This isnt a shot at Obama or any one party or individual politician.But rather a shot at our government body as a whole.

Notice what Beck and Franklin said are close to what a Boy Scout is.
A Scout is:
Trustworthy
Loyal
Helpful
Friendly
Courteous
Kind
Obedient
Cheerful
Thrifty
Brave
Clean
Reverent
That's why libs are trying to ruin the Boyscouts

YES, they need to provide the basic functions of gov't and be done. Oh, yeah, and NO MORE DEFICIT FINANCING!!! We are never going to pay off our debt at the rate we've been going for the last 30 years.

"I don't recognize this country anymore." This is what an older/wiser (late 50's) friend of mine from work said about the current state of affairs.....Kind of sums it up for me.

I think everyone agrees that the country has gone astray...the difference is which way people feel it has gone.
We will not see change with the party system we have in place now. Both major parties are fighting tooth and nail to avoid any change that threatens their power. Government is playing FAR too large a role in our everyday lives.

So what can We the People due? Vote,Protest....?Teach our children these values and hope they can make a change.If we dont we are going to end up like the rest of the Great Civilizations that thought they would exist forever,We can just look back at history and learn from their mistakes.The Roman Empire for example fell because of some of the exact same things we are doing now.

i guess we the people will have to wait until a larger number of people in this country get so feed up with the way the country is going that they get the two party system to pay attention.
