I am considering trading some coral for this hippo. This is the only picture that I have of it. Does the face look like HLLE?

Thanks, John

I have never seen it. A guy has it in his 47 bow and wants to get it a bigger tank. I have just this picture.

I find it very difficult to tell from that pic....There is no line, but a lot of times there isn't....

Let me ask you this.....Do you have a QT? HLLE is 100% treatable....if you have a qt with excellent water, a stress free environment, and good food , and vitamins...if it is the beginning of HLLE you can cure it....Just know it is not an overnight fix....
You should QT it anyway...a lot of tangs, especially hippos tend to carry ich...and since you really have no clue about the tank it is coming from...it would be in your best interest to qt....

I have a QT. I picked up the fish last night and I took a whole bunch of pictures today. Here are some of the better ones of the area in question.

Thanks, John

In the first pic it looks like some "flesh" is missing...if that is what I am seeing, then I say IMO yes...it is HLLE (w/o the line)...totally curable....feed really nutritious food and good vitamins...keep it in excellent water quality

I would say yes. Good infor from Ms. Kitty also see Beth's post on cures int he disease forum. Here is a picture of Acanthurus dussumieri Valenciennes 1835, the Eyestripe or Dussumier's Surgeonfish. This one with a developing case of HLLE...

Thanks. I have read up on Beth's post.
I am hoping that getting the fish out of the old tank will help with the water quality issues.

Good luck with the fish...just keep in mind that the recovery is lengthy, so don't get discouraged

I have seen and also experienced dramatic and RAPID improvement with Zoecon enriched food as well as an improvement in water quality

I agree. Vitachem is also a good choice to rotate.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone.
I got her yesterday from a fellow reefer in the area who had her in a 46g tank. She is 3-4" long so not really that big. I don't know what his water parameters, but I keep mine very good. Zero for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. pH around 8.2 and a SG of about 1.024.
For food she gets SF Bay Emerald Entree soaked in Selcon and VitaChem as well as algae sheets.
Is there something else I should do? I have read they they like fresh veggies like broccoli and cuccumbers but have not tried them yet.
