It can but its fleshy skin can tear on it skeleton if it is fully out when you take it out of the water. I rustle my hand by my forgspawn to get it to close then take it out. How large are you talking about with those water changes?

mix your salt in a bucket and run a power head in it for 24 hrs. That way you can keep everything in the tank during the water change and you dont have to worry about it.
You DONT want to mix the salt water and just put it into the tank.
Not sure if you are already doing this or not?
Then have your power head pump the water into your tank through a clear flex plastic tube.
You have been a member since 2000 so you prob already know this.

Get the frogspawn to retract before you lower the water. It will have no trouble being out of the water for 5 minutes as long as you can get it to retract first.
