My husband and I were considering getting bikes here in OK....BUT 2 years ago my stepson had a 4 wheeler wreck, and after spending 13 days in a trauma unit in OKC, and 75% of the trauma were motorcycle and atv wrecks....I quickly changed my mind...excuse me..WE changed OUR minds.
I wish you luck on your bike, just be extra careful....you have so much less to protect you
That sucks. How old was he when he wrecked?
I always wear the correct gear. Now. That being said it will only help with skins rash and protecting your head. If you are going fast enough nothing can help you or if you get hit by something bigger than a VW you are in trouble. I just refuse to do live my life wondering what if. I do all sorts of crazy things.

For my hubby, and I think many others, it is this constant need to multitask. He sees the car as wasted time, and so he feels the need to get as much work done as possible while he is in the car. Our society pushes multi-tasking. For example, last night we were driving home and the baby was asleep in his car seat. My husband is talking on a conference call about some email. One person wants my husband to read it to him, since he couldn't forward it to him because he was driving. So my husband proceeds to take the phone and dig through his emails to find it, then he was going to read the WHOLE email. He was going to do this all while driving 70mph on the Florida Turnpike! I interrupted and politely said "honey, please wait until we get home. Your little one is in the car." My husband did as I asked, but everyone involved in the conversation was annoyed at me.

You dont drive

Sadly to say, I am not surprised at how many people actually do this, as evident by the honesty of a some here, because I see this all the time. If you get behind someone doing it, you can see that many of them at some point will drift over the center line, go off the right edge a little, or at the very least they will be driving 20 mph slower than everyone else because they are in their own little world.
Sorry if I upset anyone (nina&noah/bender77), that was not the intent. It's just that none of us are guaranteed a tomorrow, so why be the cause of your's or someone else's tomorrow ending by doing something so idiotic? With our fast-paced lifestyles, and cool gadget technology, we should be reminded what's important and what's not.

Don't worry about it. I was warned that it was graphic. It just doesn't take much to make me cry these days.
Its just a reminder to keep on my hubby's butt about it.

neither of my kids drive yet, but They do both text. My son will be in drivers ed next summer. I made both him and my daughter who is 12 watch this. Since thier father is a police officer and has worked many wrecks, we both feel it better to show them what can happen.

I really don't think it's the need for multi-tasking or that everyone 'needs to keep busy' (well sorta), but it's just as a country, as whole, we just take driving as a joke. The licensing program is worthless and pretty anyone that wants to drive, can. If everyone viewed driving as the priviledge that it really is, and not a given-right, I'd doubt we'd be having this conversion.
But because people view driving as a chore, or labor, and not the responiblity it is, everyone takes it lightly.
Do people who suck at playing videos game, play them much? Nope. Does someone who sucks royalily at driving, do so probably everyday? Yep...

Crypt word to the wise you forget to look up while texting and hit the back end of a Semi-truck. There is NO amount of gear you can be wearing that will save your hind end. Here are some pics of someone that was texting in a small car that hit a Semi Head on. The Driver of the truck walked away the driver of the car well as the pics show they picked him up in pieces. To the mods this is a Semi driving board and the commets are from Professional drivers that see this everyday.

I agree that people should not be texting while driving but please leave the extremely graphic pictures off of this site. Thanks

You made my eyes tear up for that poor little girl who lost her mother, and then I cracked up at the last line! A guitar, really!?! That is a classic.

You have to be going fast enough to do that to yourself. Hit the back of a semi and kill yourself. You make it seem like I was doing 130 with one hand on my phone looking down. I never said I was on the highway. Lets have a little just a smig of common sense.
Im not making up excuses. I just think people tend to think something is worse than it really is.
Also Im one of those dudes who rides on the highway and gets blown past by other jackasses on bikes. Its funny but they scare they living crap out of me when they do it. I have no need to ride like that or text while riding anymore. I understand how stupid it is. I am almost 30. Yes Im a big kid who does dumb crap a lot but I love life. i try to stay alive.

crypt...off topic, are you an Eagle Scout, or is/was a Scout? Something in another thread gave me that impression. I'm an ASM so I was just wondering.
