Drunk Drivers!!!!!!!!!

I have not been on the boards for a while as a result of a woman that decided to drink and drive. Three weeks ago I was jogging before work (6 a.m. mind you) when a woman decided to drive into the dog park and run me over (my lab was unscathed). A broken arm and leg, collapsed lung, ruptured spleen, three days unconscious, and in the hospital for two weeks, I am finally feeling better. The woman that hit me is 28 years old and this will hopefully be her 6th D.U.I. conviction I had some partners from the firm pull her file, she has been convicted of 5 (two resulting in injury), but she has been acquited of three others. The partners have made some calls and it turns out she is from old money in La. and has connections which is the reason she is not in jail. This really ticks me off as she could have killed me (and my lab). She has cost me three week of my life, made my girlfriend think I was gone, my clients are not getting their cases resolved, and three of tanks crashed while I was in the hospital. I do not think her "old money" and connections can help her now as she nearly killed an attorney that has "old money" and connections in the DA's office. Sorry I just had to vent as I HATE drunk drivers. All ya have to do is call a cab if you are going to booze. By the way my buddy from law school in the DA's office is prosecuting the case. My firm is helping, she's gonna go to jail on this one. Hope all is well with ya'll,

I worked with someone whose sister was killed in an almost identical situation. She was jogging at 5:30am and the 23 year old drunk girl was just coming home when she passed out. She didn't even know she'd hit someone.

Arraingment is next Tuesday, I'll let ya'll know what happens. She aint gonna plead this one down to reckless opp. What the heck do I do with the free time, I'm stuck in bed. Been reading up on cases but it's not sinking in, pain killers take away my deductive skills away, I fear I am causing my client more harm than good in my research(drugs are bad kids). Ya'll know any good 360 games to rent other than BIO? I heard there is some new game called "two worlds???"

Hope for a speedy recovery. Don't let her go on this one. I'm so tired of these good ole boys(girls) and there money bailing there butts out of situations like this. After you hit her with these charges, hit her estate. Make her wake up before she kills someone.

The biggest problem in this situation is the drunk driving laws and judges are not tough enough to keep drivers off the roads. Put them in jail, suspend their license indefinitely ... Oh yeah - the "good ol'boys" are also part of the problem when they're sympathizing the offenders and giving them a lesser charge or letting them off scot free only to go drink & drive all over again.

A lot of mention of a monetary entitlement, and while that most likely stands true, LSU, you are an attorney and I'm gonna assume that you don't need the money. So, I hope you get yor sweet justice in the form of turning her into an example. I am glad your ok, even though I don't know you, but I hope you fry her butt!! Yeah, I believe in a lot of freedoms, but driving drunk should not even be an option. To many statistics against this and yet people keep doing it.
I'm glad your dog's OK, but it sucks you lost your tanks.
Keep us posted, I wanna know what happens to this person.
I hope you take her to the cleaners.

You may want to contact your local news stations. A woman driving around with 5 priors... a little media pressure could help in future legal matters.

I would start with the "Court of Public Opinion" Contact your local MADD chapter, get them invloved, then get the local TV stations interested, tell them you would like to make a public statement from your bed with regards to the persons DUI. Once the public gets wind of it, I'm sure a wave of fury will provide the needed pressure for conviction.... I would find it very hard to digest her getting off with your injuries, if she does, then there is something seriously wrong.......Contact "Good Morning America" the "Today Show" start at the very top and let the pressure roll downhill....Good luck and hope you have a speedy recovery...
