Dumb mistake mixing water

Every weekend after my water change I fill my bucket with RODI water for the next change. Sometimes I add the salt then, sometimes I wait. This weekend I thought I still had to add the salt so did so, and this morning checked the salinity and it was 1.055 sg :scared:
Which tells me I must have added the salt once already.

So my question is, do I throw this away and start over or am I safe diluting this batch down to the correct concentration?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I don't know why you couldn't dilute it down to the correct concentration...

I would say that you need to do a 10% water change.
Take 10% water out of your tank.
Then, fill with RO/DI water only, Don't add salt mix!
Check level after a few hours, if close to 35 ppt, leave it alone for 24 hours.
After this time period, ajust the level to 35 ppt.

:notsure:
ReefRobert, are you thinking it's my tank water that is that concentrated? It's not, just my water intended for the next water change....

Just dillute it down......Its no different than just adding salt and water initially and getting it to the point you need..Heck sw stored for a week or so is gonna be higher in sg anyway due to evaporation, and its normal to dilyte it prior to use anyhow....so what is the problem?

Just double your water volume and you'll be right where you need to be.

Some of the major and minor trace elements have probably precipitated out of solution. It's OK to use the saltwater, it's just won't have all of the normal elements.

Thank you, some kind of precipitation was exactly what I was concerned about. I mixed some up to 1.025 SG and tested it, Alk is 11.5 dKH and Calcium is 340, so I guess all is well.
Thanks :happyfish
