Eating my Niger Trigger-anything wrong with that?

yea, he's old and pretty much really lethargic. poor thing is like 17 years old, we bought him in 1993 at this mall. i inherited him from my dad. when he kicks the bucket, i'd like to eat him with a good dish of chinese noodles. my wife is half korean so she can make some really good buyn yeong. well, i'm just wondering how good he would taste? i mean, it''s not like he'll be flopping around in the fry pan or anything. so are there any good recipes? sushi is an option too. sun might go for that.

I wouldn't eat a fish that just dies on it's own. Eating a healthy fish that you kill is one thing, eating a fish that just died... not a chance. Dying of old age isn't this nice benign situation... like healthy fish peacefully drifting off into the Great Sea in the .... whereever. They still die of something... and that unknown would keep it off my plate.

only pic i got is like from 2000. we took photos then when he was really gorgeous. say, his scales are really huge, like bigger than my biggest thumbnail. is that a sign of age? kinda like how the size of the rings of a tree shjow their age?

Kinda strange, I never thought that aquarium fish such as Niger Trigger can be eaten by human..
Sad, you took care of that fish for 17 years then you will eat him. :(

I actually don't find it sad.... I just find it unclean. Our food fish is regulated. Lord knows what this trigger came into contact with in all his years. Many things from many seas.

yea he was a good fish, but hey when his heart stops, he isn't coming back so i thought i'd get something back from my investment. a good fine meal, ya know. funny thing is, my wife came up with it.

that's the fish from a while ago- 200 i think it says, marker has faded on the top.. had to get the old cd out. amazing it still works after so long. pretty little guy huh?

How will you know he died from his heart stopping? One thing that happens with old age is that they become susceptible to infections and what not.
I have a lot of asian friends... I have to pat them down at the door for forks and knives before they come into my house.

well, it is a guess. he is in perfect health, never had a disease. we took care of that fish. i thought that in its old age, his heart would just give out like an old man's.
well, my wife is a tough cookie, but she isn't like into eating dogs or anything, though she hates cats and licks her lips when she sees them...kidding!!!
nah, she's cool. she's my woman so i never need worry about pat downs before emals, just well, at other times...!!

I find it very odd that anyone could (or would) eat something they cared for for that amount of time (or any time at all)

Most old man are not as lucky to go that way. Current health has nothing to do with it. I wouldn't eat anything that just up and died of unknown causes in my tank. And you will not know what he died of unless you have "Dr. G: Medical Examiner" in your back pocket (it's a show if you haven't seen it).
Can we see some more pics from that CD? He sure is pretty.
We also have to remember we all don't put the same "emotional" factor in our fish. Greg and I are less sensitive than some.... some peeps fly flags at 1/2 mass when their seahorse dies... no joke. A fish is not a cat our dog, IMO. Even though I put great value and respect in my fish... I still look at them as a fish.
