Eel agressive??

I am new to this forum but one of the first things I found that are totally wrong is the fact that morays/eels would be agressive. I have several morays at home, changing them every month with new ones and I free-dive every week here in the caribbean and love to play under water with big morays, letting them glide through my hands, touching them. Never im my experience with eels I have seen agressive behavior. Even the smallest fishes are far more agressive and territorial.
Just a few words of my experience with those wonderful lifeforms.

Just because they have been labeled aggressive doesn't mean they always are. But the warning is there that they can be aggressive.
My eel is pretty laid back but I've seen it snap a few times.

Maybe because you change them out all the time is why you aren't seeing these behaviours.
My husband had a 16 year old eel that was sweet as pie with even other fish when he was younger. As years past he started diving after tusks and large fish. He then got his own tank and again years past. Then my husband got bit while cleaning around his cave. Fare enough.... we're in his space. Then one day my husband was working on the lights over the tank and the eel came out and bit him. Jumped out of the water! He's lucky he lived for a few more years after that. He has big scars from that. Unfortunately he died in a GFCI incident and a divorce. (the eel... not the hubby).
And wild behaviour doesn't always replicate captive behaviour. Sometimes tighter quarters encourages aggression.

My zebra is docile as anything. My SFE is a bit aggressive. But my general rule over the years - if they're hungry - anything's game. But yeah - as cranberry said. They're attitude can definitely evolve over time for sure.

Nice posts. I consider myself a moray expert (maybe even freak). I have had very large Spotted Morays and others and the bigger they get, the calmer they are but they would never bite. Morays are some of the calmest animals in the ocean and in my tanks. The personalities are extremely different but the only reason I see that an eel bite is because of much hunger. If I didnt feed the moray for a few days and its a bigger one I wouldnt risk to touch them how I usually do all the time becuase you never know if there are some rests of food smell stick to your fingers.
Anyways I just wanted to let people that have no moray experience know that morays are not even 10% as aggressive as even the smallest fish. I simply love them :)
By the way I have a beautiful Goldentail for sale right now.
