emerald crabs

anyone ever seen an emerald crab turn white? what would cause this..especially if they have plenty to eat.

i've seen it -
my last emerald turned white over the course of 2 months then died....
i got another..... and this one is now sloooooowwwly turning white...
i wish i knew - thats exactly why i've signed on today... i want to try to find out
anyone...?

Do you have any alge in your tank? I believe they get and kkep their coloring from the algae they eat.

Wierd, makes me wonder if they are lacking something like iodine or some other mineral. Just guessing and don't really know but if they have plenty to eat it shouldn't be a food source problem

Omnivores, opportunistic feeders eat just about anything. Probably get their color form the algae though.

Every Emerald Crab I have ever had has died

I wonder how much the Stingray has to do with that though???

I have never had a problem with mine. I have had mine in my tank since I started it about 7 months ago. He is green and happy. See him out almost every day. He usually hides inbetween a bunch of green hairy mushrooms I have in the front of the tank.

You have no idea how much I envy you. I can't wait until I get my own house. My first order of business is to set up a ray tank.
I have a little emerald crab hitchhiker as well. Really green. Nice cleaners. Thanks for the info there Spanky.

You wouldn't have this morning...
...I feed my fish after I do my hair, but before I put my dress on (thank goodness)...well this morning the ray was extra excited about eating and sent a small tidal wave over the side

Like I said....glad it missed my hair...and that I wasn't dressed.

Seriously though, that's awesome. Maybe the ray thought you weren't clean enough and wanted to help you out.
About the emerald crab, white seems to be fine, just keep him well fed.
