You could do a lot better as far as a filter is concerned!!!! To me they are a waste of $$$$ no matter the cost.

Joe,
Actually the Emperor 400 is a pretty good filter system for the money. I run twin 400's on my 55 and they work superb. You will most likely hear alot of negative comments regarding certain equipment (like above) but just remember that 1 person's thoughts are NOT always true. Do some research on them if you wish and decide for yourself, if you do decide to go with the 400...if your luck is the same as mine with them, you will be very pleased with the performance.
Hope it helps...

I have had a 400 for a year now. It's almost silent, easy to maintain, and I have always had perfect water. I attribute most of my sucess to this filter setup. ;)

I run 2- 400's in my tank and I love them. They work really well and are very quiet.

I have a emperor 300 on my 55 gal with another smaller filter that came with the tank. I don't know if the 400 and the 300 are similiar but i love mine. I also like the way my bio wheels keep the ammonia and trites down.

Work great but when your tank get older re 6 month get rid ot the bio wheels they are great at first when the tank is young but nitrate makers and you dont need them when your tank is older

If your 30 has a center brace, you won't get a 400 on the tank. You will have to go with a 280, or two 280's. If your tank is fish only, I think the Emporers are very good filters.

If your useing RO water, all you need is carbon. If your useing another source of water, then you might want to put something in that filters out phos. I've got 2 filters but I only put carbon in one of them. And don't take your Bio wheels out! defeats the purpose of a bio filter, the wheels are not nitrate factorys. Usally nitrates build up in old filters or carbon that is left in too long.
