Enough already! No more ethnic titles!

African-American is the one slip up. It's was the first PC acceptable term that popped up since blacks or negro's fell out of favor. Caucasian/Hispanic/African-American/Asian/Pacific Islander is what I normally see. So caucasian is what those white South Africans would normally fill in. Don't overcomplicate these things

well, either take out part I or II. i.e. in African-American take out one part. I say, the land you are born in is the land you should be named for. my ancestors are irish, but i was born in america. so i am considered american.

i know. I mean christians cant put out the little houses where jesus was born. the YMCA is no longer christians only. and any majority cant single out a minority. i.e. you cant have a club saying men only but you can have one saying women only. i saw a "womens fitness edge" the other day. Is it really neccesary?

What is a race anyway? more or less pigment, skin around the eyes, curly or straight hair? Come on. People need to take a chill pill and stop taking themselves so seriously.

actually, this has been attacked here in CT and MA.
there is a workout place that used to be called "Curves for Women".
CT and MA both told them they cannot exclude men, and need to change their name to something that didn't exclude men, so it's now just "Curves"

I totally agree with Krista. Many people out there are estremely proud of beng "

[hr]
American" or whatever they are. We have no right to take that away from anybody, plus, This race labeling thing is strongly political, and I doubt if it goes anywhere anytime soon.
What about me? I am adopted and don't have any idea what lineage my blood comes from. Can I just be in a race all of my own? I'll call it: PlanetHellYeah. The doors are open to any who want to join PlanetHellYeah. lol
*The term "PlanetHellYeah" is copywrited and patented and is not to be used by anybody, in any form, who is not a member nor without specific permission from me. lol.

um...
got those too--they are called family restrooms, so people don't have to worry about their kids going to the bathroom all by themselves, and so they can do baby changes etc.

I'm talkin' about total strangers of opposite sexes using the same restroom at the same time. Yeh, ok I know some of you guys will have no problem with that.

yeah it irritates me too.

I questioned this myself. As it turns out america is one of the only countries i have been able to find proof of racial seperation. I work with people from Jamaca, trinidad, canada, ireland, england, germany, albania, italy, and norway. In none of their countries this is an issue. In fact in most of those countries race isnt really an issue at all.
That being said i will hence forth be known as
Irish-german-english-norse-italian-native american-american I find the term "white" to be racist and i wish for my ancestory to be acknowledged. If you must use such terms i will be refered to as "Melinin impared"

I just realised that maby i should make it clear that last part is a joke. I am a little crazy but not quite that much and people tend to take me seriously when i am joking and joking when i am serious.

really random, but I was wondering if I could join PlanetHellYeah? I'm adopted, have no idea what lineage I am. And chano has a good point IMO

pretending that race doesn't exist is not the same as creating equality.

This is the problem, why does a higher level of chemicals in ones skin make them so different? With the exception of melinin levels biologically we are the same.

Wow! i believe that there's a white sheet hanging in some people's closet somewhere. These ethnic titles came from race and let's not forget who came up with the idea of "race"--western europeans ( I would say "whitey", but i'm afraid that would offend someone somewhere). An idea to account for differences among people and (PAY ATTENTION
) to justify colonization, conquest, enslavement, and form a social hierarchy. The first people to come up with racial class were a German (Johann Friedrich Blumenbach) and a Swiss (Carolus Linnaeus). So the beginning of these ethnic titles came from a bunch of caucasians.
Let's look at early America. The concept of race helped explain why some people could be denied rights to freedoms that others took for granted, justified extermination of Native Americans, exclusion of Asian immigrants, and taking of Mexican lands. These ideas and practices were institutionalized within early government, laws, and society. So when i read about people being tired of seeing African-American, Mexican-American, or what ever else, just remember who planted the seed for these titles to take root.
Why not get rid of the label of "American" or "Mexican" or "Korean" and just be called "Human", because there is only one race-the human race.
As for me, when asked where i'm from, i take much pride saying "I'm a Kentuckian, and that's all you need to know".
