Not a big difference, but a much more stable 'scape. I'll be getting vortechs in the next week or so, and it was getting to a point that I would worry about the increased flow possibly causing problems.

Just placed my order for two MP40's w/ battery backup. I also ordered a replacement impeller cover for my mag 12 so i can swap it with my current mag 18 return pump. Last night was the reef club meeting and I got a decent poci frag. Pretty pumped about this.

still trying to figure out the different modes. these things are pretty sick. they have met all my expectations and have delivered on all the hype.

these vortechs are boss! i hate to say it, but i havent had much time to play around with them because of school. what i have noticed over the past few weeks is a drop in my water temp and my skimmer has been filling much faster. i've been recently having issues with corals bleaching, which is probably my fault with my water change schedule. its been over a month so tomorrow i'll be mixing some new water. once i clean the tank up a bit i will post some pics.

also, i finally got in touch with pacific coast imports and they are sending out the replacement part for my calcium reactor so hopefully i'll have that up and running this week <fingers crossed>

so, as it turns out, the day after giving pacific coast imports my information i had an unauthorized transaction to my debit card for $300. i thought the whole thing was pretty shady: tried to get a hold of PCI for a few months via phone and e-mail to no avail. then when i finally did get a hold of them, the guy on the line said he had my order waiting for me and that all he needed was my payment information... i hadn't even given him my name yet so how could he know that part was for me. i told him that was an impossibility because i had yet to speak to anyone. i wont bore you with the rest of the conversation, but it was all pretty shifty. so, still no part for my reactor. i figure that i may try once more, because i need that part, but this time i'm going to find a pre-paid visa gift card.
i've been super busy with school, so i havent had any updates. i'd really like to start getting rid of some softies in my tank, i need to recharge my kati-ani, i'd like to get that reactor up and running, and also maybe add a TLF phosphate reactor. i've been thinking about it and i reckon i might start stashing some dough for a tank upgrade. i really like the dimensions of a 300 DD tank, but the house i rent isnt going to allow for that. i think i might move next year because i'm sick of paying over $1200 in rent alone every month. guess i'll have to see what happens.

its been a while since my last update, as usual. my school schedule has become less demanding and now that the weather is starting to turn it's time to focus more of my free time on my tank. i lost my blue hippo tang about 3 weeks ago, for unknown reasons.
i've been having a macro outbreak in my tank, mostly caulerpa and halimeda. i havent recharged my kati/ani filter yet, so i'm guessing that it's beginning to leech phosphates. i went out today and picked up the muriatic acid and 100% lye to do the recharge which is what i'm doing as i type. i'm going to drain my ATO resevoir and refill it with new water once the recharge is complete. also will have to mix up a small water change with whatever salt i have for tomorrow and then get some more salt later this week to do a larger water change. i will post a few pics of the regeneration process once i'm done.

yesterday i tore my tank apart and removed a bunch of rock that was over taken by a ton of softies. i did save some soft corals, like a toadstool, devils finger and two other leathers, but got rid of all my mushroom polyps, a rock with a hugh colony of sinularia that spread like wildfire, and a few rocks that had GSP and zoas on them. I did save the original frags that the zoas and GSP were on, but i will just place them in the sandbed so they wont take over my stonies. i gave all the rock to a buddy of mine and traded him for some of the rock in his tank. since he has a lot of reef pests like aiptasia and algae i will have to boil the rock and cure it in a garbage can for the next month. i'm just happy to have a lot of that stuff out of my tank so i can focus more on SPS and not worry about having to prune softies off of every rock. i'll post a bunch of pics tomorrow after i give my presentation to my school
