havent posted in a few days, im just waiting on the new sump tank to be delivered. i'm off to the depot for some plumbing. i'm not all that familiar with all of the angles and curves that are available. the only work w/ pvc i've done is making rails and boxes for snowboarding and skating. i havent seen many plumbing designs with curved pvc. not sure why that is, but i think i have a good idea of how i can use them in my plumbing design

I think curved pvc is less common and a tad more tricky to work with then the hard parts you just stick together. Can't wait to see some more progess.

believe me, fishkid, i cant wait either. right now its just a matter of waiting for the new tank. i'm pumped to see what the asm g2 will pull out of the water. on top of that i really want to start getting some more coral. i just dont think its a great idea to get corals, only to have to move them around so much in such a short time frame.
i couldnt find the curved pieces of pvc i was thinking about. i know i've seen them before. either way, i'm just going to go w/ 45's where i can use them. hopefully things will start moving along much faster in the next few days.

what's should the thickness of the glass be for the baffles?

45's are much better then the regular 90's. For baffel thickness, I think it really depends on how much water is gettting pushed against it. My acrylic (sp) baffles are about an 1/8 shorter than 1/4 of an inch. I am running about 1000gph, including height and plumbing mess. As you probably known, the water will go for least resesent path so that would be over the baffel, not at it. It mostly just has to be secured in tightly.

the only 90's i'm using will be the ones going over the rim of the tank. even then i might use 4 X 45's at an angle so they hug the back wall. the scwd is also a "T" and from what i remember reading, it creates about 60 gph head loss in itself. but considering the flow will only be going to one side of the tank at a time, i think that the flow after all loss is taken into account will be more than sufficient.

I will apologize before posting the rest of this...but....as a Browns fan, I don't get to say this often (and I know that it is off topic...), but...did the Browns REALLY beat the Steelers last Thursday night??? I thought I was going to have to call an ambulance to take me away as I was in total shock when the quadruple zero went up on the scoreboard!!! well...I will get back to you again in another 6 years when they do it again!

and take lots of pictures...my LFS guy didn't show up tonight for installation of my tank, I am beginning to think that I am going to have to wait until the shoulder fully heals (another 4-6 weeks) before I can get this thing up and running!!!

yeah yeah yeah... i guess i deserve that. the steelers really took a big dump this year. it's cool though, since when you're at the top the only way to go is down. i sure as $___ didnt expect them to go as low as losing to cleveland, but it is what it is.
i plan on taking bunches of pics. i think i might start breaking things down in the next few days just to get a start on things. i cant see the sump tank taking that much longer to be delivered.

my fingers were crossed that the sump tank would be delivered today, but to my dismay it wasnt. i wanted to start taking things apart just to get this project rolling, but i dont have anywhere to put the brain coral and anemone where i can give them light. i have a couple 55's laying around in the basement, but they wont accomodate my lights b/c of the center cross braces. i'll have to rig something up very temporarily so they'll get light during the process. all that i've really done recently was a w/c for the curing rock.

well, for some reason, the lowes around here only cuts glass for picture frames (lame) so it's way too thin. considering its the day after christmas all the glass shops around here are closed for the weekend, and since it's my birthday i'm not going to spend it looking for somewhere that's open. at least i finally got the sump tank and everything i need (save the glass for baffles, pvc, and paint) to do this. man i'm mad about this, but it shouldnt be much longer. i'm going w/ 1/4" baffles- if that doesnt sound right please let me know.
also, the instructions that came w/ the mag 18 said i should use 1 1/2" plumbing. i was going to use 1" since the scwd is 1". will it make a difference if i use 1 1/2" up to the scwd then it goes down to 1", or if i use 1" throughout?

well, the wife suprised me w/ a purple tip sebae anemone today. that was nice of her. i'm done sitting on this project. tomorrow after work its go time. i have to make a few calls to glass places to see where i can get the baffles cut around here. hopefully i can have them cut them while i'm at work so its a quick snatch and grab. i still didnt get the plumbing yet but the depot is right around the corner, so that's not a problem. the game plan will be to mount the baffles, then break everything down tomorrow. hopefully my glass-holes order will make it here either tomorrow or tuesday. once the overflow kit comes i figure it will be one day to drill and paint, then another day to let the silicone dry around the overflow boxes, then we'll have her up and running this week.

christ today was a lot of work. where to start... i called some glass places, they all sang the same song: no 'same-day' service. so i gave them my card # and the baffles will be ready for when i get out of work tomorrow. 6 pieces, the largest two are 15.5"X 12" and the bill was like $53.
got the tank drained. all the LR (save ~40 lbs) in one 55 gal, all the livestock into another 55 gal. my house just got a lot smaller...

of course it wasnt all without setbacks. mike from glass-holes got a hold of me and said that my order was the first to NOT get sent over the holidays, so it went out today and should be here on wednesday. no big deal.
however, i went to do a water change on the curing LR and found that my better half had unplugged the heater and pump in the bucket so she could vacuum and forgot to plug them back in. (why she unplugged both of them, i have no idea). the bucket contained the raunchiest smelling water i've ever had the pleasure of whiffing. needless to say, the rock was super nasty so i boiled it again... twice.
