Everything Is Ok But Snails Keep Dying

i have a 125g tank that has been setup for about 4 months. i have about 150 pounds of live rock, 2 75g sumps. i started to add b-ionic when i got my live rock at the beginning. i did what the bottle said, add approx 30ml a day. went slow with everything. everything tests ok-nitrates,trites, ph, ammon. fish, shrimp, crabs, and narcissus snails are doing fine but other snails die within a day. would this be from to much b-ionic. did a massive water change over 8 days-25gallons every other day. let it sit for a week and did a test with a couple of turbo snails and they only lasted 1 day. could it be something else i dont know about?

what are your levels? have you had them tested by a second source (lfs), sometimes test kits go bad and give false readings.
what else is in your tank? Do you have a CC star (they like to knock snails off the glass and eat them)
What's your sg? What are you using to measure it? are you sure it's correct? Does your sg change much?
How are you acclimating the snails?
I'd ask if you have enough algea, but that wouldn't kill them over night.

Why? that sounds like a lot. You said you followed the directions? I've never used it so I don't know.

lfs(which i trust-have know quite a while)said to do water change-to much calcium, only need to add that much once a week with the few corals i have. then i talked to my brother and he does once a week also w/ all of his chemicals.
i have had lfs also test with same results.

What I don't understand is how'd you know they die within a day??? Is it because they didn't move?? How did you acclimate them? :notsure:

they are acclimated for about an 1 hr or more. they just dont move or fall, then i pick them up and smell them and they stink.

Hi I would check your iodine levels and like was already said, get another test you might have a bad batch of tests. And I would get you sg up to at least 1.026. IMO

I would test for copper. I know this will kill them. Also look at any chmicals that you may have used during the set up.

I bought 3 turbo's for my tank about 6 weeks ago. 1 died after about 1 week. Another died a few days ago.
I think what killed the second one was I added pH buffer to my tank last weekend. I don't think I was supposed to directly dump the powder in the tank. But I did. The snails immediately retracted and fell off the rocks (poor fella's).
Makes me think I may have did the same thing like 5 weeks ago which took the first one out.
I really need to learn how to treat my tank with chemicles.

I just let my bag float in the tank for about 90 minutes... then I carefully dump the bag into a large glass bowl... and add about a half gallon of tank water to that one pint at a time, slowly... let them stay in that for about 15 minutes, then put them in the tank (not the water of course).

A couple of questions:
How are you acclamating your new snails?
If you are dosing what are your current results for calcium/alkalinity/PH?
What is your current salinity level?
Strange that everything else seems fine but snails die off for no apparent reason...

Nope, not really acceptable. And it might be your problem. On the left side of your screen is a link, Acclimation. Read that. follow that.
Or, float for 20-30, (90 is too long, doesn't take that long to acclimate temp). Then add half cup water, repeat every 20-30 till bag full, empty half the water (not in your tank of course), add add half cup water, repeat every 20-30 till bag full, add snails. While you're doing this, the bag is still floating in your tank, otherwise the temps going to change.
The drip method is the best though.
Also, what's the sg of the tank at the store? I'm thinking maybe there's a big difference b/w tanks and you're not acclimating them long enough.

What are you using to test sg? and are you sure it's correct? 1.024 is fine, if that's really what it is. But if it's off, then it might be too low.
I would test for copper.
wouldn't copper also kill the other inverts? not just the snails?
Are you getting your snails all from the same place? I'd try a new place.
