I just wanted to share this...
I was asking a few questions on here and had the idea presented to me to put my maxima clam in a half clam shell filled with sand and my clam has never been happier. Its colors are brighter and is now opening up like it should. Thank you swf.com!!!

I just bought 6 cleaner clams. How far should they be open? Right now they open enough to stick there snorkel out but that's it.

Actually your cleaner clams should disappear into the sand.....that's what they do, and do not be surprised when you don't see them

Wow they did that and i was like how are they going to clean anything. Are they good to have?

In my opinion a BIG YES...they are cleaning under the sand...i see mine rarely..but that is good...I have heard that if they die, their shells will come up
Mine are all alive so I do not know about that from experience

I have six in my tank, I bought them at the local grocer for .40 cents each. when they do die they do surface but my hermits picked it clean by the time I go it out of the tank.

Yeah all I have is a stupid super Walmart.....so no seafood market for me....I bought them from swf for $4.99 each...but worth it I guess

Can you show a pic. I am not sure I am following the design.

It is kind of like putting a clam in a tupperware container that has sand on the bottom, except the container is a half clam shell. This had to come from a mistake with a previous clam but I think I have this one under control.
