Experience with Flame Angel?

I'm considering a Flame Angel as my last fish an a community that includes 1 Heniochus Bannerfish, 2 Klein's butterflies, 1 Blue damselfish (non-aggressive so far) and a school of 9 small Green Chromis. I have a 125 with 100+ lbs LR, plenty of shrimp, crabs, snails, 1 brittle star. I have plently of powerheads and my water parameters are 8.4 PH, 1.025 SG, 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrite, and 20Nitrate. My tank has been runningsince September 2008. I love the way the Flame Angel looks, but I've read conflicting accounts of their longevity. Some sources say they are 'hardy' while others say they usually don't last more than a month or so. If I get one, I will definitely QT and hypo for about 5 weeks. Any comments regarding your experience with this fish will be appreciated. Thanks.

its how they are caught. I have seen many that are hardy and many that fail. Its hit or miss.
Get them eating asap. They swallow food and then nibble it and spit it out. It slook slike they arent eating but they are. Feed 3 to 4 times a day as well./

I never buy any fish unless I know precisely where they come from. This site has Hawaiian Flames, and you can't do better than that. There is a good online dealer that has Flames at a very good sale price this week. They are Marshall Island Flames and should do well. Flame Angels are widely distributed and I'm sure some are caught with cyanide; that is why I avoid fish labeled as coming from "The Indo-Pacific". I've had excellent results with these fish and, IMO, the #1 requirement is plenty of very mature live rock. BTW, they are one fish that doesn't tolerate copper very well. If you use copper in QT, like I do, I'd either skip it or use a minimal dose.

i got mine from here. if u go the lfs route, make sure to pick a healthy specimen, one that looks alert. most flame angels died bc people either put them in a new tank, or one lacking enough liverocks. also, feeding them an angel diet is important, which include things such as sponge. a for feeding, 1-2x per day is more than enough. they pick foods off rocks all day long. below is a pic of mine.

I have had mine for about 3 years now. Very hardy fish. Always swimming around picking at rock and it plays with my Hawaiian Flame Wrasse all day long. They always follow eachother for some reason.
Of course you should QT, but to be honest I never QT any fish except for tangs and I have never had any issues. Knock on wood...

IMO & IME; Everything should always be quarantined. Any fish (or invert) can carry various stages of the ich parasite with no visible signs. Like many folks, I learned this this the hard way. If QT isn't the 1st rule of long-term, successful fish keeping; I don't know what is.
