i've never ordered rocks from the net, but i want to add another 50 lbs to my aquascape. i doubt it is 'legal' to name any sites here, but if anyone can give me a round-about figure of $/lb that would be helpful.

thx meowzer. i googled "live rock" and clicked on a link that said something about $2/lb, but the site seemed a little shifty to me. a lot of the sites i've seen have prices comparible to what the lfs charges, but i'll keep looking. thanks again.

before i found the guy i get my rock from now i bought 45 lb box of fiji on e-bay.around $3.50 a lb.i have never seen rock except base for anywhere near $2.the rock i got wasnt too bad at all.one large piece and and mostly 5-8 inch pieces.i think they are still on there selling.
my lfs sells lr for $10 a lb ,thats just nuts.

clist..... 2-3 bucks max.... Tonga, alora, fiji... the good expensive stuff out of established tanks that are being tore down. Get it off CList no shipping and better stuff for cheap

Definately go off craigslist. There was a man selling it around my way super cheap. 120lbs of tonga branch and something else out of a 6yr established tank for $100!! Now, you may not always find this, but I thought that was fantastic! Both of my LFSs sell their rock at $8-11/lb even rubble. I think that is insane for the most part.

it is nuts when you want to put a few hundred pounds in your tank. i dont even know how much i have in there already, probably around 100 lbs. i have some really nice pieces, too. i want to weigh what i have when i get the new rock just so i know what i've got.

i've searched online and asked around to see if there's any local clubs and i have yet to find any. the best i've found is this one LFS has someone speak once a month and does like a beginner's group. and on the first saturday of every month, the same LFS has a used equipment sale- no rock though. it has made me think of starting something, but i dont really even know what goes on at reef clubs other than frag swaps so idk.

I just had my LFS (who I have a good relationship with) order me a few boxes. Since he didnt have to do anything with it other than recieve it from his supplier I got two 50 lb boxes for $160 each.

You can find some real good prices online for LR in the $2-$4 range but the shipping is what kills it. Add the shipping in and bang your well over you 2-4.
Cl is the best place to find rock, just be patient and have the cash and your dialing finger ready. I know in my area it doesn't stay for sale long. On the swap meet idea why doesn't SWF have a classifieds or trades section for us?

because swf.com is a business. they included this forum in their website to provide us with a free service. the forums are run by users, not employees, but out of respect to the people at swf.com we leave the business to them, and in return we are allowed a place to get advice from other aquarists.
