Fearsome Snowflake Eel

I got up this morning to check on the tank as well as turn the lights on and witnessed a crazy sight. I had a 5 inch one spot fox face with half of its body gone. The only culprit could be the eel, one could see that the body had been thrashed and pulled apart. This was truly an amazing sight to see knowing that this fish was perfectly healthy and supposedly venomous. I had posted on here a while ago stating that my 3 - 4 inch niger trigger had disappeared and could not believe that the eel was responsible. I believe it very much so now. I hate to take the eel out seeing that I have had him four five years now, but he is an absolute terror.

Wow....that is pretty amazing..........sorry for your losses. Have you considered maybe giving him to someone with a more aggressive tank set up?

what is your feeding schedule for your SFE?
If I wait longer than usual to feed my morays, they eat the other fish I have in the tank with them so that might be a posibility as to why he is killing your other fish. Big morays need alot of food to stay happy, if you have had him for 4 years he must be at a nice size.

I actually think it has been more like 5 years, I would say that he is almost 30 inches long decent girth. I try to feed every three days with raw shrimp and squid chunks. I may have to up the ante or take him out. Either way will suck

try feeding him a little more until he goes back into his hide out and see if his agression stops

Yeah, if someone fed me a raw shrimp once every 3 days who knows what I might be eating

I feed my stingray a raw shrimp, silverside, and one
of the following clam, scallop, or squid every morning
AND she gobbles it down.....

How large is it. I have a 24 incher in my tank and he eacts roughly 2ozs every 2 days of Squid OCtopus shrimp Sliversides and jkrill. My fish know to GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY when he is eating. When they are this big they have 2 big problems extreme nearsighted and a very powerful bite. This one killed a KORAN angel that made the mistake of getting in its way at feeding time he ripped his gills right out. sometimes there is NOTHING you can do on the aggression part.
Remember they are acting on instinct. Teach him to eat from a feeding stick and only a feeding stick and only in one part of the tank also when you do feed them STUFF IT FULL make sure you see that belly bulge out that way you know it is full.

my spotted moray is just over 2 feet and thick, he can eat 8+ small raw shrimp, couple pieces of squid/clams and still be looking for more food. They will eat as much as you feed them so like ironeagle said, make sure you see the belly bulge out a little so you know he has a good amount of food in him. I think feeding him more will fix his agression.

I had to move my tank today so I had to catch all my fish and move them. So I weighed out a bag of water 2 lbs worth then added the SFE to it. My SFE that is 2 feet long weighs close to a 1.2 lbs so when he eats HE IS HUNGRY. Mine is also over 1.5 inches around and active.

I'm lucky I got my SNE small he's only 10 -12 inches and looks for me to feed him off teh prong. My Scorpion fish only eats live ghost shrimp so there's always live things going into the tank. He looks for the feeding prong everytime, crossing my fingers and hoping it stays that way.

its not unusual for an eel to eat a venomous fish.. these guys are tanks... I would start feeding this eel daily to keep him at bay if you don't intend to move him out into his own tank..you don't have to gorge him just satisfy his need for food.. the larger these animals get the larger amount of food they require and more often... you may even want to set up a tank for him alone.. this is what I had to do with my mex dragon..eels are solitary animals in nature some more so than others .. but none the less these are opportunistic predators.. as I have stated several times before (you can take the fish out of the wild ..but you cannot take the wild out of the fish)
