Featherduster handling

I just picked up two featherduster worms at a very nice price, but I'm not sure how to place them. The leathery tubes are split in places and the one worm that has emerged is coming out from the side of the tlube rather than the end. The second worm has not emerged yet.
Should I just leave them on the substrate until I see how they open up? Then, how much of the tube should be buried beneath the substrate?
Thanks for the help.

Now the problem is that my sailfin tang has decided to keep moving the featherdusters around the tank. It is continuously picking the tubes up and moving them from place to place. They aren't getting much chance to settle in! I don't know how the tang did it, but I found one worm up near the top of the live rock wedged under an open brain coral.
