feeding a carpet?

I picked up a nice looking green carpet aninome last Saturday. The guy at the LFS told me to feed it a small piece of shrimp or fish about twice a week. It will have nothing to do with any thing I offer. Any suggestions? I got two skunk clowns on Sunday and they love it. When feeding the fish I will some times see the clowns blowing small blood worms or brine at it and I have never seen the aninome eat a thing. BTW it is in about 15 inches of water with alternating flow from a squid wave maker and a 250W MH six inches over the water.

Very nice Carpet!:)
although mine has never refused anything, I wouldn't worry about it not eating. it will survive off of just the light for quite some time. I used to feed mine 1/2 of a raw cocktail shrimp every other day, and it was huge. I have cut back to 1/2 every other week now and it looks just as healthy, just not quite as huge as it was. your skunk clowns may also be feeding it enough so that it is not interested.

Awsome color in that anemone! Very healthy specimine too.
It may just need a little more time to adjust.

Thanks for the infoļ the guy at my LFS is getting me two paired true percs and holding them for me for a week or two the last pair I had only made it a week. Do you think they will share with the skunks?

I highly doubt it. It is very uncommon for different species of clowns to live peacefully, especially pairs, and especially in a single anemone.

Hi, I fed my carpet every other day, and he loved it. I saw him get smaller and unhappy when I didn't. If you wiggle the food in his tentacles a little that may help. I didn't have a hoster for my carpet, so I had to do it. I just gave my carpet to my lfs for credit, as he was competing to much with my pink sebae, I had him over a year. I noticed mine didn't like massive flow on him, so I had to do some adjusting too. I wouldn't worry though. They survive for quite some time without eating, like 2 weeks. I would just try again in a few days. Mine liked formula one cubes, and mysid shrimp soaked in zoe, as well as fresh stuff. Good luck, Ali

no your skunks will not share it.... only keep 1 kind of clowns in a tank unless it is 6 ft long...
what lighting you got on that tank... carpets are one of the harder anemones to keep

When I got him-her LOL from the LFS it was stuck to the piece of dead SSP the guy held the SSP with the carpet hanging with most of it in the water for about tem minutes and he wouldn’t let go. Finaly just gave me the SSP with a few feather dusters. He moved and now is ½ on my LR and ½ on the dead SSP.

The bubble tip near the base of the carpet moved in after the carpet came into the tank. The bubble tip needed to move about 18 inches to get where he is.

looks great so far. I love mine also :) one suggestion is clear some space around him, they have a wicked sting and will beat the hell out of your other corals. BTW if you have good lighting you dont have to feed them often unless you want him to get huge. Mine gets fed about once a week or longer and does just fine.

I would recommend moving your T. crocea up into the top of your rockwork. They are the most light demanding clams, and the bottom is'nt close enough to the light.I keep mine on a clam shell..then if I need to move them I can{they will bore into the rock..in this case the clam shell}They are also vulnerable to bristle worms in the sandbed..they can get through their byssal gland.Very nice tank btw.I hope you don't have problems keeping two anemones.Try to find something the carpet will eat..maybe silversides..or he may soon eat the fish he hosts.

JMO/E.. I would NOT add a pair of clowns NOW... They will not get along with your other clowns.
It would just stress everyone out and that would be bad.. :nervous:
I would choose ONE or the other, what ever pair you like best and keep just them.

I have heard several times skunk clown are non aggressive and could live with other clowns. I have been told they (skunks) are the only clowns you should have together in one tank. I have seen several display tanks (fish not for sale) in LFS with more than a pair of clowns. Like three four or even five. I think I am going to try two true perks with the skunks. I have lots of hiding spots.
if they fight I will try to get the shunks out.

Hi, I wouldn't try to move the carpet. He'll just move around 'til he finds his spot. If you make a small sandy spot for him below where he is, he may move down into it, because carpets like sand more than crushed coral. He looks super happy, so I don't think you have much to worry about. I would move anything that's close to him, away, because carpets are one of the strongest stinging of all the anemonies. And your other anemonie I would move to the far end of the tank, they say just 12-18 inches away is ok, but I would move it to the far end of the tank. Good luck, I think he looks good, and should feed soon.
