film on water

i have a weird film on the top of my water. What is it, how do i get rid of it, And is it bad to have it?

It's most likely proteins....it just means you don't have enough surface agitation.

+1...how many powerheads do you have? You can position one so it is pointing up (angled)
ORRR depending on your filter....with canisters you can get a spray bar attachment that moves the water across the top

I have three powerheads and 2 of them are pointed at an angle up to avoid that film.
