Blue bonded buy them in sheet form not pre cut (less costly)
I HATE WALMART!!!!! I went for the filter stuff...they NEVER have anything,...so I went to the craft dept., and bought a roll of the poly fiber stuff that they sell on the web for fish tanks.....$5....I guess it will be good enough for now anyway.

That should be it! Mine is "poly-fil' high loft polyester batting.
It will go alot farther than that blue stuff from the LFS.

Joe,
I hate to be on the opposite side than you because we are definately on the same page !!
I'm going to strongly suggest and state that you use 50 or 100 micron cut to size filter pads. Most fish stores will carry them ( not wally world ) but best to get online. I am willing to state that all the suggestions given to you so far aren't even in the same ball park as these !! I'm also willing to state that anyone who ever buys and uses the blue poly filter and then the micron filter to see the difference; that person will never use the poly filter again.
Meowzer,
There is no comparison !!!!
I am going to totally agree with you Ilovemytank. I was using the blue pad until you suggested the micron filter pads, I purchased the 100 micron and it is absoultely unbelievable how good this stuff works. Thanks for the suggestion.

·Blue Bonded Filter Pads are less coarse, and are good for cleaning most visible debris from your aquarium water.
·Micron filter pads utilize diatomaceous earth, , removing extra small particulates. But do we really want to remove extra small partials, to bad we can not ask our filter feeders

Joe,
As you know I don't have near the stock of filter feeders as you ( although I have gotten more since you have last seen it and they are doing excellent.) I have feather dusters and other feather dusters for along time though. Its anazing how sparkling clean my tank is. I never have to feed extra to the filter feederrs and they are growing and full of life. I also have a very high stock level and have perfect water quality. This is in part the removal of so much crud before it can break down. I love these things !!!!!!!!!!!!
yes, i use felt frabic. i have a americle wet/dry and it is the same pads they have on top in the trays.for mechanical filtration it works great.the felt is about 3 to 4 dollars a yard and you get 9 ,12in. pads in a yard.

My good friend you are a prime example of the educated hobbyist, find what works best for you and stick to your guns.
My problem is nothing works for me...I'm cursed or something...Although I will say that since I have my new wet/sry with skimmer...my water is very clear....I still have a lot to learn..unfortunately some will be from trial and error (error I seem to do a lot of)

As that group of expert hobbyists from England once said “THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD” and as I say a journey well worthwhile. Hang in there
