As a matter of fact, IMO I prefer this type system on my tanks. Provided you have enough filtration and water movement as the others have said, this means that in the event of a pump malfunction or some other malfunction, you still have filtering even with one system down. I always have my main filtration, with a much smaller, most often canister filter, running in the background. I am not saying it is better, but rather gives me some personal piece-of-mind.

I have seen the UV light in several debates online recently. I don't think there is enough evidence either way. UV does clean the water (free floating algae) giving more light to the corals, but at what expense? I suppliment my corals and that is anouuther entire discussion altogether. I think until proven otherwise it is more personal preference.
