Finally saw the ocean!

I finally bucked up and left my precious mountains to go to the Ocean. I went on a 3 1/2 hour Whale Watching Tour... didn't see any whales, saw some blow though but the water was too choppy and he wouldn't surface. I also got a mouthful of saltwater when a Navy Destroyer decided to fly past us and eeeeeew. It was kinda fun I guess, really wanted to see a whale though. I about flipped when I found out that grey whales eat 1,000 lbs of amphipods a day. A DAY! GEEESH, tiny buggers.
Oh well... had to share :)

That's awesome, congrats. First time I saw the ocean I was 19 and went to senior week with a bunch of friends that had just graduated. It was quite an experience... I'll never forget walking up to the boardwalk as we arrived at 9pm that first night and seeing the ocean in the moonlight...

Wow its very very odd hearing this.. the fact that some people have never seen the ocean.. or the first time was like when they were 20... being born and raised on the East Coast... its just weird to hear.

Yeah, I was born in southern NH and raised in central PA; never more than 2 hrs from the ocean, and yet my parents never saw fit to take me there.... oddly I don't have a lot of good things to say about my childhood.

I made sure to avoid this with my son, he was at the ocean and walking in the surf for the first time when he was 1, and he LOVED the experience.

I live in Myrtle Beach, so I saw the ocean before I even knew what the ocean was. I've also been to the Pacific Ocean. but hey, I've never been to the grand canyon.

Been at the ocean for as long as I can remember. However (at 22) I have yet to see snow thicker then a dusting.
So don't feel too bad.

Where did you go? I remember seeing it for the first time. (I'm from KC,MO)
I was in my thirties before I saw the ocean.
I've seen east and west coasts, but have never been to the gulf.

If you think standing in the surf or taking a whale watching tour is cool - you should experience SCUBA diving! Talk about mind-blowing!! It will truly give you an appreciation for the ocean and all its living creatures. Just imagine swimming in your tank (times 1billion!!)....
Glad you finally got to see it! It's kindof awe inspiring eh??

Closer to 40 than 20 =P I knew it was about time but I'm deathly afraid of the ocean! I was terrified the second I realized we couldn't see land anymore.

You ain't missing much.

The only fun thing about snow is driving in it, though I'd have just as much fun driving on the beach in my shiny Jeep.

that's honestly why i like living in the north east.
we (used to) get true seasons, and the snow is nice :) plus it gets hot enough to really go to the beach. problem is the beach in CT is mainly LI sound, so...
but go to maine, or even massachusetts, and the beaches are pretty nice.
martha's vineyard is an island off mass, and the beach i went to one time was like 2' off the shore and you were over your head in crab infested water :)
funny thing is, i never went deep sea fishing until a year ago, and then it was at night, so i've never had that "omg i'm away from the shore" feeling.

It was awful! I hear terms like "Sneaker Wave" and watch Tsunami's on the news. I just made sure and sat by the life vests and I even had one picked out. I'm SO brave! This last winter my hubby tag-teamed our driveway 4 times in one day to keep the snow off ... I would MUCH prefer that over a giant killer wave.

I had never been seen it 'til last year, when I was 20.
My friend said she wished there was a beach closer while we were cashing our paychecks. I told her San Diego and ROcky Point are the closest. So we packed up and drove to San Diego at 8pm. Went to Mission Beach. It was awesome.
I had been to Lake Michigan before that, and they kinda look the same. Lake Michigan is just dirtier.

The Grand Canyon is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
