Hey I'm new haven't even bought a tank yet just saving up some money for it. I was just wondering if the fish tank on Finding Nemo is possible to replicate with the add of a blue hippo tang of course. Any feedback would be great. Thanks

Never did even see the movie, so what kinds of fish were in there? I know there was the clown and the blue hippo tang, what else were you thinking about?

I would say not for the beginner due to the difficulty in keeping a Moorish Idol and the tank would need to be 150+ Gallons because of the Puffer and Hippo Tang. Also, the Puffer will probably eat the Cleaner Shrimp.

actually its not advisable as if you remember the moris idol is also in that tank ..I know the idea is cute because of the movie.. however your tank will not be a movie these are living animals in reality are not compatible with one another. or ashould not be in hobbiest tanks at all. although its been a while since i seen the movie i do remember some of those fish should not be kept al all..
this movie has killed more fish than the movie 101 dalmatians created unwanted dalmatian puppies

Wow, I had never thought about it in that light, but your definitely are correct. We probably still have a bit before we catch up to the Easter bunny and all of the misplaced rabbits from centuries
of Easters...
One could only think though, that perhaps the only animal movie that really didn't harm the star animals was probably Babe. I just don't see my parents running out to buy their kids baby pot-bellies.

Did anybody notice else that the magical filter in this movie was metal?

That tank was lame anyway, who uses blue gravel? It is bad for saltwater and looks stupid for freshwater.

Wow thanks for all the posts. Didn't think I'd get that many replies. So the moorish idol is a hard fish to keep then?

Yes. Even people who have been in the hobby for years don't have a high success rate.
What was going on in the tank in the movie is not something that you want to replicate. No plastic plants, no FW gravel, no bubbling thing, and that "magical filter" does not exist.
Look through some of the information on this site to see what a saltwater tank entails before starting one.

You forgot that the tank looked like a 55g, and was overstocked.
But some of what happened is good to note:
-If you have an intake big enough for a fish to fit in... one will get sucked up.
-Clownfish are better in pairs.
-If you don't clean your tank, algae will result.

Haha, I just googled it, copied, and pasted. They did leave off Peach the Starfish though

And almost single-handedly created the Tang Police.
I shudder every time I see those little 1-2" Hippo Tangs at the LFS, knowing they'll be named "Dori" and put into a 12g Nano.
