Argh.......I do so hate the one's that love to surf.
I thought I read that they prefer pairs (so I guess that would mean 2 not 3).
Are they sociable or skittish?
Since doing away with my center piece Tang I think Il just go with smaller fish with alot of color
Im holding off on a Mandarin for a bit. Even though everything but the tank itself has been running for well over a year, Im sure I lost alotv pods in the transfer.

I have egg crate on all of my tanks....really doesn't make a heck of a lot of difference....
BUT...they will jump thru it if they are really determined.....I lost 2 that way...thru the eggcrate
then there are other people who have no problems....just depends....it seems everything we do in this hobby has some chance to it

Based on my experiences with the 2. I bought a Red firefish over a year ago, still have have him and he's very calm but i also have percula clownfish and green chromis and they are very hyper. i bought a purple firefish had him for about 3-4 months. they got along great! very beautiful fish. died, not sure why or what. then i bought another red one. the first 2 weeks the old one was stressed moved out of his rock and to the other side of the tank. it even looked like his fins where getting smaller. i thought i was going to lose him. three new one would chase when near. but now they are fine together. they aren't close friends but dont go after each other orhide from each other.
also the purple is like 20 bucks more. and even though they are jumpers. i've never had any jump. i have even had my lid off while cleaning or changing water. never jumped once. but i have plexi glass on the back lid by the filters.

i currently have a 20g tank and 1 red firefish and it has NEVER tried to jump...everytime it gets startled it dashes for his "home" (inside the rocks)...as for behavior wise well when I first added it to the tank it would come out and as soon as it saw me it would go back to its cave, now its always outside (even when I stick my hand in tank) and just goes into his cave when it sees something unfamiliar.

no there is a Maroon Clown that chases him whenever he gets close to the Leather Coral (his house) I have on the left side of the tank

I rescue my fire fish from *****. It was getting beat up by damsels. She is doing great now. Nice and healthy
