Yay punks!!!
Poison free is the way to be!!!

I'd be a punk too, but I'd never get away with a purple mohawk in Synagogue.

As for my happy coral dance...it looks more like the odd jerky thumb and knee bending dance Elayne does from Seinfeld. :hilarious

Way to go Mimzy Wimzy. Very Nice. I picked up my 1st Long tip Anemone yesterday and floated for about 5 then did the little water in the bag at a time for an hour then placed him in. Within seconds he opened up nicely and was changing colors. AWESOME. Then last night after lights out, he moved a little further back and under a ledge so to speak. Looks great "flowing in the breeze". Picked up some Cyclopeeze and other foods for the rest of the tank. Cool stuff.

The LFS told me to feed it once a week. (whole raw shrimp) does this sound ok or right?

not a whole raw shrimp.l thats too much. you can feed it anything meaty 1-2 times a week. but feed it small pieces

Lookin good Mimzy!! Love the shrooms. Definatly go with a goby if you can, or even a bi-color blenny. They are such characters. What will be nexy on your coral list?

Wow. Thanx for the replies everyone!!
Congrats on the completed cycle Celacanth!!! I was flipping out when my levels leveled off - just you wait!! Only gets better!! :cheer:
1968 - if you want to find good LFSs in ur area, I suggest asking the people here - that's how I found all THREE of my favs!
Fishieness - as for lighting, I'm pretty sure it's 30 watts of 5000k pc lighting. I have the marineland eclipse 12 gallong tank, and am keeping the stock lighting. I'll upgrade after we move - there are apparently a bunch of retrofit kits for this tank...and my Dad and little brother are building me some moonlights :joy:
As far as the mohawk in synagogue goes...I think it's truthfully a case of I MYSELF wouldn't let me get away with it

Hot883 - that is the coolest colored anemone I've ever seen!!!
I want an ENTIRE THREAD of pix!!!!!! Get some of it eating, too!!!! CONGRATS!!! :jumping:
SW65, this is for you

Vi3tboi - the rock with all the polyps on it was 25.00, and the rock with the astrea and the 7+ shrooms on it was 49.00. That rock, however, ALSO is home to about 9 or 10 small brown zoos, 2 brittlestars (yes people, I found ANOTHER brittle star this morning - a different color and even bigger!!) and 2 small asterina stars - whos pictures, of course, you can see at the bottom.
And that's only what emerged after ONE DAY!!!
Fishmama - I will definitly try for a goby or a blenny...I'm so up in the air about which variety though.
We'll see, I suppose, what happens to fall into my lap.
As for my next corals....FRAGS!!! I'd really like to try my hand at propagating the corals I've got now and trading them for whatever else I can get my hands on. It'll be a slow process, but I'm hopeful. :joy:
OK, that's all for now, y'all - more pix later!! :jumping:

i want to do some fraggin too. i have a newly discovered awsomeness plan though. i got to my LFS's (i have two now), buy floating mushrooms on the glass or random rocks for 5 bucks each, cut them into 4 pieces, frag some more, then ill have some awsome mushrooms and some awsome ones to trade!!
so far ive gotten two types of rics (an orange that was 30 and a green taht was 20, but each has two mouths)
a purple, green stripe
and i just got back from a blue stripe and some type of hairy for 5 bucks each! They had rocks there with about 5 of them for 45 bucks!! so im goign to cut mine into 4 pieces. mwhahahaha. I love how hardy and regeneratey (yeah i jsut made up a word... so what?!) mushrooms are

you eclipse comes with pc? i wish my 29 gallon did
well.. i have a puffer in there now, so no corals anyways.

Tell me about fragging your shrooms -
Do they get REALLY SLIMEY when u take them out of the water?
Do they shrivel up while you're working with them?
How long does it take for them to look less traumatized after you cut them and tie them to rocks?
How long 'till you know they've taken hold of the rocks they're on and are growing?
Have u ever had a frag die?
:help: :notsure:

Thanx a million... I've got my eye on just the mushroom I'd like to frag - it's a big curly one allllll the way on the back of the rock that you can't see no matter what position the rock is in. I'd like to frag it or at least move it off the shroom rock and start a new colony on the big lace rock on the left of my tank. :jumping:

well i can tell you this, im no expert. lol. I did it my first time on friday when i came home with the two rics that i did not frag, but a green stripe, and a purple. They were not attached to anything and were only 5 bucks so i thought i would give it a try. I asked here some and then went to it.
They do get realy slimy so it would be best to do it out of your tank either in a bowl or i jsut did it quickly on a paper towel. But you dont want too much slime in there. I took an x-acto knife, but it into numerous pieces with a quick sharpe slice down the center so taht i got a piece of the stem in each one. You cannot glue them yet since they are so slimey. I took a plastic cup and filled it with about half an inch of crushed coral from my 29 gallon tank and put the mushrooms in there. Now, 2 days later, they are not so shriveled up but jsut look like a corner of a mushroom. I dont know how long it takes to attach yet though. But once they attach to the crushed coral (you can also use live rock rubble), you can then superglue the pieces of crushed coral to a larger rock. I jsut cut the two i got today into 11 more pieces, so that is pretty sweet and i cant wait for them to be in my tank! (they are acclimating now still)
and since this is pretty much a new idea that i have wanted to do, i have never had a frag die, but i have only done it once. lol. but as long as your water quality is good they will apparently grow back in now time! :joy: I figured i would try it because i can get some sweet mushrooms at a realy good price!
shibby told me of some other good ways if you dont want to get them all cut up you can put a rubber band over them or in a high current. since they dont like the high current or the pressure of the rubber band, they will apparently also split to get away from it. I havent tried those personaly either.
hope that helps. im not an expert, or even inermediate. still a noOb. But i figure id pass on everything i know.
if you want to try, my recomendation would be to try with one little shroom and make sure it works out.

yeah we do!! especialy people like me because none of their friends understand or know what they are talking about....ever.... So i get excited here.
oh yeah, BTW mimzy: if you cut off just the top of that shroom on the back, another one will grow in the place of the stem AND you can frag the crown.

OK Fishieness - here's what I did.
First, I got all impatient and my irises turned to dollar signs every time i peeked back there at the lonely mushroom. Then it got the better of me and I decided to go ahead and frag it.

OK, so...I know theyre hardly been in the tank 24 hours, but all the polyps are looking so happy and bright and stretchy that I figured it'd be ok. Besides, it was in such an akward place - no one will be the wiser if this doesnt work.
I cut the top half off a plastic cup and filled it with water from my tank. Took some of the extra shells I had from when I bought new real estate for my hermies and put them in the cup. I placed this next to the tank.
Then I picked up the shroom rock and kept it submerged while I scraped the hidey-shroom off with a sharp spoon. I quickly took the shroom out and put it in the cup with the shells, and brought it all into the kitchen so I could sit down and actually see what I was doing

In the kitchen, I took 2 shells out of the cup and put them on a plate, then I put the mushroom on the plate, cut it in half and then tied each half to a shell with some string. I tried to make sure the shrooms were in the air for as short a time as possible.
When I was done tying them to the shells, I plopped them back into the up, and put the whole thing (cup and all) back into the aquarium, nestled in a corner.
There was a LOT of sliminess when i cut them, and they looked really aweful after I was done...but they're looking less and less distressed now that they're back in the tank.
I really hope this works...I'll keep you posted!!!
