yeah phil what does it say? we are all what? ive been trying to read it.... oh well
sweet!! ive been wanting to put some polyps on some hermit shells but for some reason i just never thought of doing it with a mushroom!! aha that would look sweet!! maybe ill try it with the string too
and i know what you mean about the dollar signs. I mean, i love my mushrooms and love to have them in my tank. i jsut happened that the two types that i wanted were right there! and a rock with a few on there were around 50 bucks each!!! My dollar signs sprang up too. although they werent so much dollar signs..... more coral signs... because that is what ill be spending any money i ever get on anyways....
let us know how it turns out!!
and oh yeah... did you put the slimieness back into the tank? That is why i did it on the paper towel. because i didnt want extra waste in there..... even if my skimmer would eat it

Actually, I was too scared to get rid of the sliminess b/c I didn't want to further injure the mushroom's tissue - I put them in the cup, sliminess and all. It's a good few hours later, and they look pretty good.
When I first put them in the tank I was really worried about them - they were all shriveled up and brown and sick looking...I was SURE I'd killed the shroom. But now, each piece looks like a complete shroom - the exposed tissue where i made the cut is no longer exposed, and they've both spread out quite a bit.
I really hope they attach to the shells...they're the perfect size and shape for me to wedge into the holes on the lace rock where I want the shrooms to grow.
And if this works.... watch out LFS...here I come!!!!

How are your frags doing?

mine are also doing very well. The purple one that i fraged on friday was rather big, and i only did it into 2 or 3 pieces. It is starting to look like a whole shroom again! The biggest piece form taht one is starting to hook around like it is already growing!
The other ones are smaller but are still doing fine
the ones that i did today seemed to be doing very well also. The blue stripe i did into 5 or 6 pieces!!! Each little piece is spread out and very colorful. It almost looked metalic. I dont know, hard to explain. They seemed pretty good though. The other hairy ones were also expanded but were small so it was a little harder to tell. My lights are off now, but i will give you an update in the morning for a more detailed description?
good luck

i dont have it yet but if you check my thread titled "so..." then youll see a full description of my future lighting and you should all vote lps on the "lps or sps" poll. I thought zoos were sps? but i love the donuts and brains and hammers and elegence

i hear elegence corals dont do very well.....
i have checked out the thread, but not voted since i have not had the pleasure of keeping SPS, so i dont know so much about them at all or what they are like to keep.
Nope, zoos are polyps. Soft corals. most will do fine with medium lighting although a few do like high.

Hi! yes...I'm here...sorry...haven't been feeling so well lately.
Um... corals...I've been told that the frags might take up to 4 weeks to attach...depends on the media you've given them to attach themselves to, and also how you are keeping them in contact with said media.
There are lots of threads about fragging corals with detailed info a pix - do a couple searches, it's totaly worth it. That's how I learned to do what I did with mine.
I'm a little concerned about the shroom frags at the moment... I think the shroom I fragged was too small. It was only about the size of a dime - it was in the back where no one could see it, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to try fragging on that one.
The pieces are very small, and they split around the string I tied them down with...didn't like the pressure....so now I've got four of the teeniest bits of corals laying around in the cup.
They've been that way for 2 days now - I'm worried, but hopefull. They haven't died, so there is still a chance.
I certainly won't try to frag a shroom that small again - even if this DOES work. :scared:
How are your frags today, Fishieness? :joy:

Also...just saw Celacanthr's question...
I test for all the standard stuff -
Salitnity
SG
Alkalinity (need a new test kit for this)
Ammonia
Nitrate
Nitrite
I need to get test kits for; calcium and phosphate 'cuz I would like to start dosing pickling lime or purple up. (if I need to). :joy:
What are you doing with your tank now that it's cycled Celacanthr?

frags should only take a couple of days to attach to the rock. and yes the string will split the shrrom even smaller. thats how i frag my shrooms. tie a string or rubberband around the rock to split it and the cut off the new shroom and put it where i want

Hey thanx Jack N Jill.... you posted as I was posting. oh how confusing. :hilarious
Anyhow... My concern is that my frags are teeeeny tiny...like...much smaller than they should be. I'm a little worried about putting them in the tank where I want them b/c they'll get blown about...and maybe my hermit crabs will think they're detritous and try to eat them.
Do you think shells are too slippery for them to attach to? Should I maybe put some sand in the cup? They haven't died yet and they've been in the cup since Sunday...think there's a chance I might yet have little shroomies? :help:
