Sorry meowzer..I am going to disagree. 025 or .5 is like almost nothing in ammonia...OP must have added too many critters all at once for the bacteria to neutralize...His fish died because it lost in combat.
0 ammonia is perfect...but .25 or .5 is not enough to worry about unless it continues to climb. A Water change won't hurt...could help.

I wish I could find the thread I just read about this Flower......What was said is....any ammonia, over .05...or any ammonia that even shows up at all can be dangerous to your fish....
It's nitrites that is becoming disputed...I'm gonna search for this thread

Wow you killed a damsel I would consider that an accomplishment (i know it sounds cruel) but I ve seen damsels tough it out through major tank problems you must have something really going on in there
