why do people do it?? i always hear of so and so putting some odd fish (not like a mandarin in a refugium) in their sump.. wondering if there was a reason behind it. also, there is a build up of stuff in our sump (brown stuff on the part under the bioballs) why is it there? is there something i should do to clean it? my skimmer keeps the other side clean i was just being nosey

i only get fish in my sump when they get into the overflow and take a ride down the pipe.
I always think it has disappeared then ill look in the sump and find them swimming around. I pulled my Orchid Dottyback out on monday. i always feel alot better to find them there. but then i wonder why they jumped in to the overflow

i was thinking about putting a mantis shrimp in my fuge, just cause i think they're cool critters and they cant be put in a tank with anything else.

my snowflake eel has done that ONCE...God help him if he does it again.. i just knew we had problems when it didnt come out looking for dinner, after tearing the entire rockscaping down to catch the SOB we got the bright idea that maybe, just maybe it took a trip down the pipes.. sure enough there he was, stuck in the pipe.. thank goodness i wouldnt take "im sure hes just hiding" for an answer lol

I have a big hermit crab that is going to my fuge if he keeps his crap up. He kept attacking the conch to try and get its shell
and I haven't seen the conch in a few days. bummer.

I've got a decorator crab down in my sump/fuge (stupid of me to get one!!) as well as some big hermits that keep crawling up into my overflow almost causing just that...an overflow. The fish that I do have in there (yellow-tail blue damsel) my she-clown keeps beating the crap out of when it's in the main tank.
