Ok my roomates dog is a serious flea bag. She sprays him AND uses the liquid stuff on the neck and STILL they are everywhere. Just today i went into the bathroom to rinse something off and there were at least 10 on my ankles.
I've seen her use aerosol around my tanks, thankfully down low and no harm, but shes also admited to using bombs in the apartment with the doors closed. I wasn't here for that one.
Nothing seems to be stemming the tide.
Can anyone suggest anything without doing harm to my two tanks?????

There are

[hr]
that will kill the fleas on the dog. Please coerce your roommate to see a Vet.
The flea sprays Can harm your tank.

I know thats what scares the crap out of me. It doesn't look like many people have more of an opinion in this. Part of the problem is the dog is long haired so the fleas hide alot better.

Sounds like the dog could use a hair cut. BTW, I heard that this is the worst year ever for fleas, dunno if that still applies down where you are.

Use Frontline! I swear it'll work. I had a similar problem a couple years ago, my entire house was infested. I put Frontline on the dog, washed his bedding, vaccuumed the house well (including all furniture), and within 7 days, not a flea in sight. Before that I was actually at the point that I even tried spraying my own ankles with flea spray! I only needed to use it once, my dog had dug under the fence and ran rampant in the field behind my house, I guess that's how he got them. You get it at the vet, but don't need to make an appointment, just go in and tell them what you want and how much the dog weighs.

They have a new pill out now that combines the flea control with the heartworm prevention. Its called SENTINEL. Its also safe for puppies. Ask your vet. Fleas are only gonna get worse now as the weather gets colder. They are gonna hitchike looking for a warm place to stay.

I broke down and bombed the apartment. I couldn't take it. Every room i went into at least 2 fleas would jump me. If i sat still five or six. I would be killing them two at a time and they still kept coming. Im proud to say 4 hours later the tanks are alive and kicking. The worst thing i did was throw off the photo period but the corals won't know that.
AND NO STINKIN FLEAS. Its nice to walk around and not have to check my ankles every two seconds.
The key is to wrap the tank in plastic completely, tape it, AND throw a towel over it. Just remember to air out the place before removing the cover......

Hmmm.... Good idea. I was planning on changing the wet dry filters tomorrow anyways. Extra carbon you think?

Yeah it was....
I was scared as crap to bomb this place. As much as i've invested so far. I definitely DO NOT have the cash flow to replace one of my tanks....
But a full day later nothing has happened.....Very relieved.

IMO i would never use an insect bomb around a tank! I know from experience! We set off a couple to get rid of spiders in a seperate room from the tank w/ the doors closed and a towl over the tank. I had several inverts die! Discouraged me somuch i took down the tank and put it in storage. I have heard that there is a shot vets can administer to animals to get rid of parasites etc. semi-annually. You should check into it. Good luck!

The bomb helped for now but no for long. As soon as the eggs hatch you will have flees again. I have been through that cycle. I believe its a 9 day cycle. The only cure is bomb every 9 days for a month or so.
However I agree that the best solution is to get that dog something that will work, but even if you do you will still have flees until you kill them completely.
I live in the boonies and had a flee infestation in the house even though I did NOT have any animals, I'm allergic to those suckers, a bite swelled up as large as a quarter and I think every one bite me (maybe I'm part dog?) It was driving me crazy.
Another trick which is safe is to get a pan of water, add a couple drops of oil to it. Place a small lamp with a goose neck over the water. Flees will be attracted to the light and warmth and jump for the lamp and fall into the water and die from the oil. Place them where the flees are the worse. This is no joke it really works well.

HHAHHAAHHA. I love the dog. He's the best one i've ever met and i don't really like dogs all to much. Its just that long hair. I'd rather get rid of the roomate she's a little inconsiderate....
The bombs said they work for 4 months and kill eggs. I have my doubts and I'm still killing one or two a day BUT its a huge improvement from 20 a day. Btw that oil thing is a GREAT idea. I know they make lamp flea traps. Ill have to try that one though. They can't swim anyways. I would drown them at times. It was a sure fire way to kill one rather than squeeze them.

:) welcome to the war.
For kittens i think you can bathe them regularly in the sink. Get some mild soap for them. That should keep them under control. Vacuum regularly and kill any of them you see. The reason it got so bad here is because the dog is super long haired and black to boot. So you can't see them or find them. So for 3 months they incubated and got bad. Do something now and you won't have to worry. Cats are alot easier to manage anyways. I've killed more fleas in a day with this dog than i have my entire life with a cat..... im 24.....
