Is this too much flow for a 120 gal. RT
I'm running a mag 12 and a Koralyia #3 I belive that around 2000 toatal GPH
Thanks I have the Mag 12 on one side of the tank and the Koralyia on the opposite side to create reverse currents.

Not to much at all. Thats 16 to 17 times turnover in an hour which is a good amount. If you plan on having SPS corals you would want even more than that.

In the 120 you state you have a mag (return pump right?) and a PH. So creating flow in the main 120 they are two units only? Is your system running a sump or are your other components HOB (piggy backed)? If in a 120 your running just the return pump and a powerhead I don't think you have near enough or chaotic enough flow.

I have a 36 gallon sump I have a mag 12 and a koraliya 3 I belive this is more than enough flow as all the corals are swaying nicely and look good even a day and a half after the upgrade. I was worried it was too much flow if any just my opinion.

lol, one of my pumps is modded, in addition to the 2 modded tunze. i know its putting out more than im crediting it for.

i was going to add that third tunze i had, but i figured the fish hated the flow as it was. bummer that im not going to be using those tunze powerheads anymore in the 75. maybe i can use them to mix my saltwater though

thatll work.
im thinking of upgrading to either 6045s, 6055s, or maybe just a 6080 since its adjustable. of course i would still use the modded 6025s i currently have.

when ppl say some corals need 20-30x over per hour what's that based on..just doesn't make sense to me anyways I belive the PH I have and the flow in the tank is really more than sufficent. So imo in a 120 creating reverse currents with a koralyia 3 and a mag2 not including the filters etc... is working great

depending on what type of corals you want to keep will determine the amount of flow you will need. softies wont like alot of flow, but LPS like moderate flow, not too much of it either. it probably also depends on whats going on in the reefs where these corals are located
since constantine and i keep SPS, we generate a lot of flow from our powerheads and try to keep it chaotic type of flow in the tank. its a way for the SPS to breathe
id you do really have 30x or so, itll be ok. i think the mod murph on here has 30x, but most people in SPS have way more that that, minimum being around 50x for SPS. like i said, i have more than 90x and so does constantine. my snails get blown around when they come up from the sandbed but the SPS love the high amount of flow

I have a few sps they are doing ok perhaps I have sps corals that don't need as much flow, I have Porites,Montipora encrusted,Pagoda cup.. the rest are LPS mostly and some polyps and softies and some hard corals, suns...thanks. I think I'm ok in my opinion with the mag 12 koralyia 3 and any other flow from wet/dry or hatver it is in there...in my 120
